2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel

Truck will be running good then will just cut out and is hard to restart and continues to shut off. Fuel filter has been changed. Seems to be a fuel pump issue to me but will start and run great occasionally.

My truck also dies randomly. I got it to restart a few times yesterday, but now it wont start at all. I think I got some dirty gas. I changed the fuel filter and drained the water from the fuel line, but it still wont start. Possible feul pump?

While driving down the road my 2004 Dogde Ram 2500 will suddenly loose power and die. during an 8 hour road trip it happened about every 2-3 hours, and with a little trouble restarting, eventually it would and we would be back on the road as if nothing happened. Seem to happen most on up hill climbs when power was most needed, but not always. I replaced the fuel pump last year, don't think that is it. No check engine light has come on. What could be the problem???

My 2004 2500 ram diesel just died with 43,000 miles on it.
It acted like it runs out of fuel.
I was told it is a 1 year model with a single fuel pump system that has issues.
Why do I need to convert to a 2 pump system? ($500 + labor)
I am told there is a 1 month wait as there are 122 on back order now.

I was told this model year did not have a lift pump. Only a fuel pump on the fuel filter (this pump died) and a high pressure pump on the rail.
This pump is no longer available from the dealer. They say a lift pump needs to be added to preserve the high pressure pump. They sell the kit complete with all wiring and fuses. I have a used pump coming from Omaha.

My 2004 2500 just started doing this as well.. cruising along just fime and all of a sudden sputter a little and die.. most times it;s hard to restart but it will start after a few tries, and sometimes run for a while and other times only sputter and die again. I'm picking up a new fuel filter tomorrow and I hope that is it, but after reading the other posts here I'm not too confident that the filter will fix my problem.

Do you still have the old style lift pump. located on the fuel filter housing or has it already been updated to in tank style. sounds like that to me. i've done a ton of them. chrysler has a whole conversion kit for this mod

It's a full pick up problem in the tank. I had the same problem. Take it to the dealer it should still be under warranty
