I have a deskjet 845c printer which was printing well. Then suddenly it stopped printing with a message '' OUT OF PAPER '' I could not understand with this message because papers were in the tray. I tried every option from the book. I changed different papers, changed cable, cleaned the rollers, put new ink cartridges with NO luck. Please HELP. Hp tecnical help was not very helpful.

One of the following has occurred:
(1) there is no paper in the printer; or
(2) there is not enough disk space to create a spool file.

Do one of the following:
(1) make sure the paper is loaded properly with paper;
(2) make sure the printer is switched on;
(3) make sure the printer is installed and connected; or
(4) delete any unnecessary files from the disk that contains the spool directory.
Then retry the command.

Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/bpd09023.pdf Things to watch out for

  • The cable type is very important. The printer cable should be IEEE1284 compliant, meaning that the cable meets certain standards set by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Usually you can tell if the cable is compatible, by checking to see if “IEEE1284 compliant? is written on the cable. If the cable is not IEEE1284 compliant, the printer and computer may not be able to effectively communicate so the printer may print strange characters or the following error messages may appear:
    • Error writing to LPT1
    • Two way communication cannot be established
    • Printer out of paper
    • Printer not responding
    • Print cartridge not responding
  • If the cable is connected at the wrong time with Windows XP, the printer may not offer all the features available.
conflicting USB cable connections
A printing conflict may occur when the printer and several USB devices are
attached to a hub. Use one of the following methods to solve the problem:
• Attach the printer’s USB cable directly to the computer instead of a
hub.
• When the printer is attached to a hub, do not use other USB devices
also attached to the hub while printing.

Remove the rear cleanout door and check for paper fragments stuck in the mechanism.

Lastly, your driver may have become corrupt. Download the latest version from HP website, and uninstall/reinstall your printer.

Hi, switch off the printer. disconnect all cables. wait for few minutes. Connect them all and try.
Also check if the concerned paper tray is being selected. There should be a lever at the end of the paper tray which detects if the paper is present/ being loaded. try pushing the lever w/ the paper.

Try to put 2 pieces of paper in tray and there is a button on machine that you can press to see if paper will roll hold it down and see if rollers spin if rollers spin try to just rough them up to get to grab paper maybe try to put some tape on rollers for it to grab.

'' OUT OF PAPER ' , when the paper is loaded means that the paper sensor is stuck.

The sensors are small plastic tabs that detect if the paper is loaded or not.

Try moving the tabs that hold the paper and the rollers that pull it out, then unplug power cord for five minutes to reset the printer, shut down is not enough.

Sounds like the sensor for the paper feed has gone bad.  When it goes bad, the printer assumes there is not paper.  I would recommend if your printer is under warranty to contact your service center.

Hi there
Sounds like a program error to me, uninstall the printers software, restart the PC and re-install the software and print a test page, if it picks the paper up and prints the problem will be solved

Good luck

When you fill the paper tray and put it in, theres a sensor inside the printer at the rear of the tray which detects the presence of paper. Its most likely optical and quite small. it'll face up orr down through either a slot in the paper tray or from above downwards. I would suggest that this sensor has failed. It may just need cleaning but I doubt that will be the case as it would report a fiull tray when empty. Also check that there are no levers/springs in the paper tray mechanism that arent aligned.
The sensor is unlikely to be in a place where u can service it easily I hate to say...

Try to reinstall the printer software and driver. There could be an issue with the computer's communicaton with the printer.
You can download the software here.

. There are rollers that cling on to the paper and move it through the machine. When the rollers are worn down they do not grip the paper. For a short fix you can get something rough like sandpaper, brillo pad, etc, and gently scratch the rollers to give them some traction. This will temporarily solve your problem until you can get the rollers replaced.

64-bit printer driver for hp 845c deskjet

Hi there,

there is no software / driver for 845c, a basic driver that allows you to print is already included in your computer, just plug in the printer and turn it on and it should work - get detected and you should be able to print.

just make sure you actually select the printer when printing.

Orange light flashing and it wont print

try to power off printer then power back on, this is usually a print job that is qued up but not printing, also if you have any print jobs in your windows printer que, delete them with the printer off. this will clear the printer. otherwise check for a paper jamb.

When the orange light is flashing, either paper jam or ink problem is happening.Try unloaging & reloading the stack of paper in the main tray. Remove & reinsert ink cartridges in the printer. You may also clean the contacts of the cartridge and inside the product.

Hp Deskjet 845C - Yellow Colour not Printing

I found this post to work for me when yellow was not printing on my HP PSC750 after using 2 cartridges: "Well if you want to damage your printer use alcohol. But if you want to make it work then pull the cartridge from the printer and run hot water on a couple of paper towels leaving alot of hot water in the towels. Put some thing under them to keep them from staining your counter top and then set the cartridge down onto the hotwater towel and let the hot water melt away the dry ink and in minutes you may be printing again if this is what it is. Be sure and use a dry paper towel to wipe off the ecess wet before you reinstall the cartridge."

Hope this helps you
