You won't need the remote to fix what you've described - I'm certain it has nothing to do with the remote. It's probably tuner related and the tuner will have to be removed from the main board and tested. Anyway that's where I'd start first... Next trace test the voltages to the tuner and make sure you don't have an open diode or something keeping the tuner down. Next check the voltages at the jungle IC and ESR all the caps in that circuit. If any of this sounds too complicated I'd strongly recommend a reliable shop. They should be able to isolate the problem in an hour or two. Bill

My television set is stuck on one channel....the audio changes with the channel but the picture stays blurred on one channel...whats wrong with it?

Lots of possibilities. If you are using the remote, try also using buttons on the TV to change channels. If TV buttons work, the remote is broken or perhaps try changing batteries and cleaning battery contacts on the remote. If neither work, lots of other things to try. You may need to set preselect channels, so your TV thinks there is only one channel out there until you do. If you are on a cable box you just need channel 3 and change channels on the cable box. I can't tell what you mean by "audio changes with the channel" ... if you mean that when you try to advance channels, it increases volume and moving down in channels lowers volume that would be strange -- if you are using a programable remote it might not be set correctly (try another programming code). The "blurred" picture is probably symptomatic of having the set on the wrong channel, and if you could set channel it might clear up ... I'd start with getting channels to change. If you need more help, give the brand and model of TV, say if you are using a remote (original or programable), and what the 'audio changes' comment means in more detail. Probably worst case is that your tuner circuit is fried, but don't assume that without more diagnostic.

My remote will turn up the volume but has stopped changing channels. What can i do?

if its the original remote first unplug the TV to reset it, then try running the auto program to lockin the channels, then it should work. also make sure the remote is in TV mode. If its a cablebox/dish remote call the cable/dish company.

I tried to program my Toshiba TV Model 27A43 to a new Universal Remote, because the original Toshiba remote was functioning more+more slowly ( I changed batteries on the original Toshiba remote first)...

Yes do a complete new channel scan. Play this like you just got the TV. If you want to buy the OEM factory remote you can most likely get it at the link and avoid all this hassle. Follow the link below. 1 800 Remotes

In just bought new Toshiba regza 40" Lcd tv and auto tuned it, but the picture is terible , snowy and colours are not good, what to do...

First of all reset the TV. for that

press and hold the POWER button
on the TV control panel for 5 or more seconds to reset the TV.
Then connect the TV tt any source like outdoor areiel or cable box etc, select the appropriate input, and retune the TV. First of all, connect it to an external antenna, and set it to autotune.

You must configure the ANT/CABLE input source before

programming channels (-left-hand column).

If the ANT/CABLE input signal type is set to Cable, the

automatic channel programming process erases channels

that were previously programmed into the TV's memory.

If the ANT/CABLE input signal type is set to Antenna, the

automatic channel programming process adds newly found

channels to the existing set of programmed channels (and

does NOT erase channels that were previously

programmed into the TV's memory.) To remove an Antenna

source channel from the memory, you must manually delete

To tune the TV to a channel not programmed in the channel

memory, you must use the Channel Number buttons on the

remote control.

Programming channels when the ANT/CABLE input is

configured for Cable will take substantially longer than when

the antenna input is configured for Antenna. This is normal;

however, once channel programming is finished, you should

not have to repeat the programming process again unless
your Cable TV service lineup changes significantly.
Find out the received channels are clear or not. If they are clear, your TV is perfect, and the input device you connects ot the TV is faulty. OK.

Magnavox tv has cable channels 2-13 only. Lost original remote. Using a universal remote. Tried to auto program. It started scanning but when channel 14 came around, just fuzzy snowy picture all through...

The set needs to be switched from antenna to cable in the setup menu. It is capable of either antenna reception or cable reception. Ch 2-14 are the same frequency for antenna and cable but above 14 they are different. That is why the picture is stoping at 14. After you switch it to cable auto program again. Thanks for using fixya.

I have a Philips 15" LCD HDTV with no picture, but sound. How can I get the picture back. I don't have any audio or video connected, nor do I want any connected. The Model # is 15PF5120.

KIndly check antenna/cable connections. Are they properly secured to the TV’s ANT75ω plug? If they are then :
• Check the TUNER MODE control for the correct tuner setting.
• Try running the Auto Program feature to find all available channels.
• Press the AV button on the remote to make sure the correct signal source is selected.
• If using an accessory device, be sure that it is functioning properly.
• If in PC Mode, a video signal MUST BE present or the TV will turn off.

If this does not work then reset to the original factory settings by performing the following steps:

  1. Press the MENU button on the remote control to see the onscreen menu.
  2. Press the CURSOR DOWN button to highlight the INSTALL menu, then press CURSOR RIGHT to enter.
  3. Press the CURSOR DOWN button repeatedly to highlight the FACTORY RESET control, then press CURSOR RIGHT to enter.
  4. Press CURSOR DOWN to select “YES” to reset the original factory settings.
  5. Press the MENU button repeatedly to clear the menu from the screen.
Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Check tv is set to pal or has to be the same as the output if the box. Then check the connections...have you a different hdmi lead as sometimes the lead is the wrong class....also try a different output slot or input slot to tv....change the av input or tv not use the tv to tune the need to set the tv to the right av input for the box...then use the box menu to tune the box.....finally if the picture is still snowy then it has to be the dish alignment...or the cable between the dish and box connections is not tight enough.

I have a 27 inch rca guide plus model no. F23503 and I don't have the original remote. I'm having a problem with getting all the channels on the tv.

RCA or GE had a run of tuners that needed special silver soldering on specific points for allot of years.
symptoms would be channel drop-out, just snow or snowy picture , streaks.
try to open the menu on the front and see if you can't auto-search your channels.
