I have cleared out tabs and tried to express to right. No luck, it just stays in the middle and will return to the left but that is all. Prior to this I had a problem with the Correction ribbon. Now the mechanism that moves the tape does not move. Also, the keys don't engage the correction ribbon. I am sure that I probably need a good professional cleaning but I can't find anyone locally who works on these. Please help.
Re: Carraige moves to middle and will go no further.
I am in Franklin, TN, too. Nashville Office Machine will clean, oil, and check Selectrics for $81.50. If the job doesn't use that much deposit, but parts are needed for repairs, they will apply money from the deposit toward the cost of parts. They have an enormous stock of parts for Selectrics, which they bought when the manufacture of IBM typewriter parts was discontinued. I am sorry, but I can't remember where they are located, but their phone number is 615-321-2679. They will also take the cover off and look at the typewriter briefly when you take it in, and can determine in a moment if they can fix it, and won't charge you the deposit or do any work, if it is obvious that they can't. They are very honest and reputable, and you can count on what they say. I drive all the way up from Columbia to have them work on my Selectric. They were recommended to me by a retired corporate secretary who used them for over 20 years and recommends them highly.

Might be service station jammed.Service station work is to clean the print heads, stores spitting ink init as we as capping the print heads to protect from the nozzle drying..After switching off the machine service station capping the print heads and arrest the carriage assm for protecting the print heads, in this condition carraige assm wont come out until its released by service station. Its required expert to release the service station, if you force to pull it will damages the print heads.. You justify what you can do for this issue...If you are capable do it...But care fully
The starwheel/escapement is probably gummed up. If you look from the bottom, you should see a "star" shaped part. Carefully spray a light lub around the area and move the carriage back and forth to free it. It may take several attempts.
You must mean the margins. To move the right margin further to the right. Move the carriage to the right margin then depress the mar release key then space over further to the right to a new position and depress the right margin key. You should here a beep. If you just want to type further to the right of the margin, when it stops typing, simply depress the mar release key and continue typing.
The paper detector on the fixing units have a history of going bad. The fixing unit is the hot roller above the drum inside the right door on the top. As the copy comes thru the rollers the paper hits a plastic lever that is spring loaded and located in the middle of the fixing unit. The sensor is all the way to the right side of the fixing assembly. If you move the lever in the middle you'll see a piece of plastic moving on the right, that piece comes out of the sensor and if can't reset the jam, that piece may not be resetting itself back inside the sensor. This is difficult to try to explain.
go to the section "Moving the carriage" turn on printer and then unplug power. If you still cant move the carrage then remove both toner cartridge and all the trays. Then completely disconnect printer and stand it upright (so paper feed and cartridge tray is on top) Look thru the paper feed area to the left side of toner carrage and you will see a little plastic tab around the bottom back of the carrage. That tab is suppose to be inside a track on the bottom of the carrage. I think that when we put in or took out toner we must have pushed it to hard and that piece jumped out of the track and has "locked" the carrage. I just pushed the carrage up carefully and used a letter opener to move the plastic tab back into place (tab is spring loaded) print working fine now. Hope this solves your problem
try jiggling the carraige around a bit and then try using that lever thats on the right side of the carraige. you might even try both at once to see what frees it up. i had the same problem and it worked for me. That's the right tab, it may be in a jammed position so it wont open properly.
