Driver for processor?

After reformatting my hardrive I know that there are a ton of drivers I have to install. I think I have installed most of them but my computer is running extremely slow....slower than before i formatted it....

Do i have to install a driver for my RAM or my processor?

What else could be causing it to be so slow?

No, you do not need a driver for your memory or cpu. Try running a hard drive check on it. It could be in the process of failing. What happens is as the computer is reading and writing information, it comes upon bad sectors of the hard drive. When this happens, the computer continues several tries to write and if it continues to fail, the hd will mark the block(s) bad and attempt to write somewhere else. This slows your computer down a w hole lot because the hd is attempting to do other things whilst you are waiting. Good luck and please don't forget to give this solution a fixya rating. Thanks! :c)

copy all of the devices driver on to a CD. reformat and reinstall the operating system.

sometime the installation files for operating system can be fragmented. you can do a hard drive defrag for the hard drive. it will help but not a lot. it is better start fresh.

defreg the hard drive after each installation, so that all program files are in close appproximaty to each other.

I have running to problem like that before, I don't know what the cause is. but reformat and reinstall fix the problem. I guest, the first installation scatter the files. If you look at the hard drive after the installion of operating system, you can see the files are not exactly packed.

My friend left his OPERATING SYSTEM disk at my house and when my computer got sick I Formatted MY Hard drive with his disk!!Being that he also had a Gateway (not the exact same model and 3 years older)with...

I think the problem lies with your dual core processor. Under Windows XP, these processors need to have the correct drivers installed to fully take advantage of the fact that they have 2 cores.
Try downloading and installing these drivers from the AMD website:
Dual core optimizer Processor driver
As always, back-up your important data, and preferrably create a restore point before going through with driver updates.
The radical choice is, obviously, to reformat using your own disk, as this should install correct drivers for all your hardware.

From vista to xp

To change to XP, you have to reformat the hard drive and start from scratch, there is no other way to go backwards.
