Been like this for 3 days now
All I have installed recently is Norton 360 version 2.0 about 2 weeks ago
thanks for replying, this is driving me insane.

  • amandamandre Jan 08, 2009

I did what you said, and there were 2 audio devices
    Bluetooth AV/HS Audio
    High Definition Audio Device

    but there were no exclamation
    points or questions marks

I have double checked, nothing is muted or turned down
when something is playing the volume shows that its working
by going lighter and darker but still no sound.

Is there no sound when playing cd but not windows?

Or is there no sound period whether you're playing cds or a game in windows (for example)

Have any changes recently been made?

How long has this problem been going on?

Allright, here is something you can do and please let me know the results.
Right click on My Computer.
Left click on Properties.
Go to Hardware tab
Click on Device Manager and then locate Sound, video, & game controllers. Click on the "+" sign and it should have a whole bunch of audio devices of some sort. If it does then the sound driver is good. Also look for exclamation points or question marks and let me know what is next to them.

However, please don't overlook the simple things.
Make sure your volume on your laptop is not all the way off and also check if your volume controls in windows is not muted or volume is down.
Let me know how it goes.

What do you mean by going lighter and darker. Are you using windows media player?

  • dmantek Jan 08, 2009

Try installing the latest audio driver from the Acer website. Below is the link. After downloading it, unzip and extract the file to a folder of your choosing. Then, run the audio.exe file and go through installation. You may or may not need to reboot pc. After doing this let me know if you have sound again. If not, we can proceed with additional steps.

I am confident that we can get some sort of resolution to your problem. Please hang in there. Thanks for your cooperation.

Go to Control Panel/Sound and Audio Devices. Make sure the mute box is unchecked.

Go to Audio Tab and make sure that the default device is something like Realtek HD audio or HD audio or something similar.

If those 2 things are ok, just to triple check go to Sounds tab, select one of the program events and then press play button underneath. Do you get sound?

  • dmantek Jan 09, 2009

Well, what is the default device?

  • dmantek Jan 09, 2009

Press the Fn button on the keyboard and the Up arrow.

Let me know if this raises volume. If not, do you have any earphones or external speaker installed on the laptop. If so, disconnect them and try again.

Also, do the following if the above doesn't work:

    Reinstalling the sound device

    1. Click on Start, Control Panel.
    2. Click on Performance and Maintenance, System
    3. Select the ‘Hardware' tab then click on ‘Device Manager'
    4. Click on the "+" next to ‘Sound, video and game controllers'.
    5. Double-click on the ‘Realtek' audio device then the ‘Driver' tab.
    6. Click ‘Uninstall'
    7. Click ‘Ok' to exit out of all open windows.
    8. Restart computer.

Try again. Let me know what happens.

I was gone for the weekend. Here is another step you can try:

    Checking Sound Effects Manager

    1. Go to Control Panel

    2. Double left click on the "Sound Effect Manager" icon, this will open up the AC97 Audio Configuration" window.

    3. On the "Sound Effect" tab (window opens to this tab) in section Titled "Karaoke" remove the green check mark in box "Voice Cancellation".

    4. Under Environment, make sure None is selected. Sometimes if other environments are chosen (such as Stone Room) you will hear echoes or other sound effects

    Let me know what happens.

It's likely that the speakers are blown out if it's quiet and making a crackling sound. To fix that, the speakers can be replaced or you can use external speakers.

SOURCE: How to replace Acer Aspire 5630 Hard Drive

The link below gives you the user manual. On the computer views is the base view which will show you the correct bay on the bottom of the computer. You will loosed the screws to that bay, remove the cover andl you will see the hard drive. Althought I have not removed this particular laptop hard drive, these drives usually pull up or back using a tab provided. The hard drive will probably have a cradle the actual drive is connected to. You will have to removed the old drive from this cradle and put the new drive back on the cradle exactly the way the old drive was attached,

I hope that this information helps and gives you a place to start solving your issue.

Acer Aspire 5630 hook up to television

Your Acer laptop has a 15-pin VGA port on the rear. It may also have a S-Video and/or a DVI-D port. Any of these can be used to connect to a television monitor. None of these connections, however, supports the sound portion of the signal. You will therefore require two cables, one for the video, and one for the sound. The sound will be a regular 1/8" stereo jack on the PC side. You will need to look at the TV to see what types of connections it accepts. There may be HDMI, DVI-D, S-Video, or RCA connections. Select a cable which matches the connections for each end for both the audio and video.

Laptop speakers are usually **** so you could spend a lot of time and money on something that won't make a difference. Try plugging in external speakers to the headphone jack. If the sound is good don't bother looking for a fix.
