Question about Braun Activator 8595 Electric Shaver

Open Question

Braun 8590 stops working without warning

After fully charging my 8590, I start shaving and it cuts off without warning. The charge LEDs may all lit. It just stops, then I re-charge it and works for a while, then stops. It seems to work when attached to the mains. Also, the cleaner no longer recognises when the shaver requires cleaning. Please advise.

SOURCE: Braun electric shaver will not charge.

Batteries can be replaced in most Braun shavers, while leaving the current circuit board intact. Braun didn't intend for this to be done, and as such does not sell the batteries alone (they include them on the circuit board). There are some aftermarket Braun shaver parts sellers that can supply just the batteries, but they charge a rather high price. Go to a website like "" and you can get AA NiMh flat top batteries that will fit your Braun for less than half the market price.

As for disassembly, it varies depending upon your shaver. Visit "" for the older service manuals. More modern day ones can be found by Google searching.

Of course, if you're not comfortable doing soldering, then you'll have to replace the batteries along with the circuit board. Suppliers like "" provide these parts, as VtToolMan mentioned.

SOURCE: The braun 5510 shaver.. rechargeable or not

If working properly, model 5510 will work either from the internal rechargeable batteries or directly from the cord. If your shaver no longer recharges, it needs to have the rechargeable batteries replaced.

To open model 8985 you will first need to gently pry off the 'cap' on the bottom that surrounds the hole where the cord plugs in. Once removed the side grips will pull off revealing 4 screws. Remove screws to take off back cover and access insides. Inner parts simply lift out.

If replacement parts are required, you will find all components for this model at

SOURCE: My Braun shaver 8585 has died. Foil, cable, box,

If I understand correctly, the shaver is dead but all other components are in good condition. If this is the case, you should consider ordering a replacement lower unit. See link below

Newer models made by Braun do not use all the same parts as your shaver so this would be a good way to go

SOURCE: Looking for a service manual for the Braun 7570 syncro razer

It's actually easier than it looks. On the bottom of the shaver is the charging port. That black plastic piece surrounding it can be pried off. Do it carefully, so you don't dent/scratch the casing. Once removed, the side pieces easily remove. You'll now see screws holding the body together. Have at it. :-)

Why have I got a red light on the bottom of my shaver when I am using it

It is common for many Braun shavers, that if the indicator light flashes red while the shaver is being used (switched on and running), it means the battery is low and needs to be charged soon.

Below is an example from a manual for a Braun model 7526 shaver. You can search that site for other manuals if this is not the correct one.

This model shaver has 3 indicator lights:
1) Green (Charging)
2) Red (Low battery)
3) Blue (Power cord attached and plugged into the wall)

Download the manual for the model 7526 here:

"The green charging light shows that the
shaver is being charged. When the rechargeable
battery is fully charged, the charging light
flashes or goes off.

If later on, the charging light comes on
again, this indicates that the shaver is
being recharged to maintain its full

The red low-charge light flashes when the
battery capacity has dropped below 20%,
provided the shaver is switched on. The
remaining capacity will then be sufficient
for 2 to 3 shaves."

I have a Braun 7570 and it is marvelous! I replace foil and cutter every year. This time after replacing it the shaver did not cut my hair. Battery still gets full charge. What is the problem?

Most likely, the 'drive unit' is bad. The drive unit is a component that consists of the swivel frame that the head snaps onto and the motor. Excessive noise while the shaver is running is also a major sign that this part is bad.
Unfortunately, Braun no longer provides these type of replacement parts for any of their shavers. You may end up needing to replace the unit.
Since you apparently like that model and you have spare shaver heads for it, you might want to consider a compatible model as a replacement. has a new model that uses the same foils and cutters as your 7570. You can see it at the link below

I have braun shaver 190s1 fully charged but the blades are not rotating for me to shave

One or more of the shaving heads is stuck on the blade foil. The latter is very delicate and wears. If there is a break in the foil often a metal shard intrudes into the path of the moving blades and it gets stuck. Remove the foil and turn on shaver - if it runs it is the foil that has to be replaced.

I was given a norelco 3605 shaver in excellent condition (used) without instructions and would like to know the charging procedure and duration (the amount of time it takes to fully charge the razor). Is...

The manual says to charge for 16 hours if it has not been used in awhile. They say nothing about it over charging, but the batteries need to be used and let discharge through shaving. A fresh/new battery is supposed to last about 2 weeks before needing a recharge. I think keeping them charged all the time cuts down on battery life.

My 7540 shaver will only start when it is fully charged. After the first shave it will start only start if I lossen the foil. Do I need a new battery?

Hi, yes these batteries only have a limited life unfortunately. To prolong the life of your battery, always ensure the batery is completely flat before charging and always charge fully but do not leave charger on after charge has completed.
Hope this helps

The circuit board on the shaver may have become faulty. One thing you can try is to fully charge the shaver first, directly connected to the outlet, and then try using the cleaning base. Also, be sure that the fluid level is sufficient. Lastly, you may be able to buy a used but working condition cleaning station off of eBay. New replacements are a bit costly.

Red L.E.D light won't stop flashing

Shaving head check indication After two years of use the red shaving unit symbol î will flash for 30 seconds during 7 shaves to indicate that you should check the condition of the shaving heads. This indication is based on an average shaving time of 3 minutes per shave. When the shaving head symbol flashes, all other symbols and lights are out. When the shaver is switched off, the shaving unit symbol disappears. When the red shaving unit symbol starts flashing, you should check the shaving heads for possible damage. If the shaving heads are damaged in any way, they must be replaced in order to obtain optimal shaving results

Intermittent lack of full charge

It's the holiday season - take it back to where ever it was purchased and tell them you got it for Christmas and you would just like to exchange it for one that works. They have a 2 year warranty, if you want to go the hard way. You won't need a receipt, or a box. I spoke with Braun Customer Service and they advised me to just take, the one I had, back to the store where it was purchased, and get a new one. This is a great time of the year to exchange it. The Braun Customer Service number is 1-800-BRAUN-11. I'm glad, I just exchanged the one I had, because, my father says it's the best shave he has ever had.
