You need to clean the scan glass. If you lift up the cover where the faxes feed into the the machine and look towards the front where the faxes exit, you'll see a small strip of glass. This glass may be dirty or even have a smudge on it.ie: White-Out, toner, adhesive, etc. Just clean the glass with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol, let dry and you're problem should be fixed.

Outgoing faxes ok. Faxes received have 2 white lines running down the page.

That issue really sounds like the sender may have issues with their machine. If you can copy correctly, and fax out correctly, it is not your unit.

2 lines are going down the page when we send a fax. The recipient is stating that it shows up on every fax sent from our 7440N Brother.

If you are using the Auto feed tray (feed paper in on the top), check the small glass panel on the left side of the machine, there may be small spot of white out or lint or dust. This has been the cause of most of our lines. If you are not using the autofeeder than you may have some internal scanner problem. I would see if there is a firmware update by going to brothers website and downloading the most recent updates to the firmware. The link to the firmware download page is: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/dlf/download_top.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc7440n_all

I get lines and can't read the right side of copies that I make with the 1270e. How do I fix this?

You have not specified why you can't read the right side of copies and I am assuming that the reason is because the 'lines' are covering the text. I can offer a solution to the lines issue.

Most likely a fax has been sent or a page copied with 'white out' (Liquid Paper), still wet on the page. As the page feeds over the scanner, (a narrow strip of glass that runs across the width of the page along the feed path) the wet liquid paper comes off on the glass as a thin line and dries. Thereafter, when copying, scanning or sending a fax, the scanner light does not go through the liquid paper streak and the result when printed is a thin vertical line that runs the full length of the page. If this is the cause you will also find that faxes you send to other people will also have this line (although faxes you receive are not affected by this problem with your machine).

To fix the problem: follow the path that the paper travels when sending a fax or making a copy, until you find the scanner (narrow glass strip). Take a clean, soft cloth and a small amount of methylated spirit (or white spirit) and remove the now dried Liquid Paper from the glass. Clean the whole strip ensuring that the glass is left clean and dry.

2" black horizontal line appears on paper when I fax, print,

Check the wondow where the paper passes to be scanned. You will probably find some debris or white out stuck on the glass. That is usually the cause of vertical lines on sent faxes.

Where is the scanner lamp on the brother fax 2820

the scanner is located under the control panel. lift up control panel and look for a thin piece of glass that runs left to right. that glass may have white out or some other foriegn material on it, however, this will only clean up lines on SENT faxes and copies. if you're getting lines on received faxes, your problem would most likely reside in your drum unit.

Black lines printing out on sent fax

If you make a copie and the lines are on the copie then the optics's are dirty, white out, ink or fourn oblrct on glass.

If you have clean the optics and the lines are still there then the C,C,D, needs to be replaces the part that reeds the documents.
more then what the fax is worth sorry.

You mean a fax you have sent is returned?
Then you should get the same result if you copy through the auto feeder also?
Life the auto feeder and clean the glass -primarily the narrow glass on the left side.
