Have you checked the drying drum to see if it spins freely? Open the door and verify it spins freely. if it does then the motor may just be in a bad spot. usually after spinning the drum a turn or two it will get it running. it humms and clicks because of the motor not turning and trips an thermal overload switch and you have to wait for it to reset. Now if the drum dosent turn then you have a problem with drum rollers or something stuck in the way of the drum.
Sounds like the motor could be locked up, Is the dryer turning if not belt broke , Check belt, take the front access plate where the motor is located and turn it on check to see if the shaft of the motor is turning at normal speed and again check the belt, with power off and belt is not broken by hand turn the drum to make sure nothing is blocking it from spinning freely. if that is free and clear than my bet is on the motor itself as it sounds like it is in locked rotor. Cause's of locked rotor Motor seen its better days if equipped the start/run capacitor could be out Hope this helps.
Check under the machine and see if the motor turns easily by hand. It could be the motor, or it could be the bearing. The switching off after a while implies that the motor is struggling against a heavier than normal force and trips because of overheating. Most likely the bearing/s is/are ceasing up.
if you push the start and it just humms it is a bad dryer motor to weak to kick on,to confirm this have sombody hold the dryer door button in and turn the drum when you push the start button,if it jump starts you know it's a bad motor-mike
