Question about Kenmore 15864/15862 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Fills the hums loudly

First the washer filled and drained correctly but did not agitate or spin. I replaced the motor coupler (it was definetly broke) then put it all back together. Now it will fill, and when it is supposed to start agitating, it hums very loudly like something is froze up?

I looked inside the pump just to be sure, nothing there, Let me give you more info, It was just one day ago that the washer filled and drained properly, I tested it again this morning, Went ahead and replaced the coupler, then immediately after doing so, it will now fill but then hums loudly when it is supposed to agitate, and it will not drain either.....as if me replacing the coupler caused it....haha. You cant screw that up can ya? I aligned the holes and everything went fine, also, while i was replacing it, i did turn the motor freely, and whatever it is is on the other side of the coupler, the gear box/ transmission?

Hello , Have you looked inside the pump where the hose comes from the tub , there could be an item clogging it , also try turning the pump where the shaft goes by hand , it should turn freely.
You can also try turning the gear case with the motor off where the coupler is attached , 1 direction will agitate and the other direction spins , you should be able to turn the gear case both ways and it will not turn easy.
if all of these check out the motor could be bad but it is highly unlikely.
let me know how it works and if you have any other questions.

The only thing you can check now is the gear case [componet behind motor].

take the motor back out and turn the coupler prong on the gear case about 10 full turns each way , if it stops and wont turn the gear case is locked and your motor can not turn it. tell me how this works.

Check for a failed capacitor under the control panel It is a start/run capacitor that the motor needs to start running. The motor will hum and if left will eventually burn out.

I have a Kenmore top loading large capacity washer model 1028882791. It began washing as usual then began to making a loud humming sound. The agitation stopped. It only makes a loud humming sound. I...

The humming sound is coming from the drive motor running but unable to drive the agitator nor the basket to spin. The drive motor is definitely running as the drain function works because of the fact that drain pump is directly coupled with the rear spline of the motor. The drain pump works in either direction as long as the motor runs. The problem is obviously a broken motor coupler which transfers the mechanical energy of the motor to the transmission. The solution then is to replace the broken coupler. Click on the link below for the detailed step-by-step procedure in replacing the motor coupler.

No spin - agitate

Hi,

You just do this

  • Test the lid switch
  • Inspect the motor coupler
  • Inspect the drover belt (belt drive only)
  • Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
  • Test the motor
  • Inspect the pulley
  • Test the transmission
  • Inspect the Agitator
  • Inspect the pump coupling
  • Test the Water switch level
Good luck !!!

Kitchenaid Washer Model #KAWS700JQ4

Washer has a motor coupler linking motor to transmission. If this motor coupler is broken or has rounded out where it engages the motor and/or transmission gear it will only fill and drain. You can view this coupler by leaning washer back against the wall & looking underneath with a flashlight. There may be a sound dampener panel on the bottom that you have to remove to see it. It is two pieces of white plastic with a rubber grommet in the middle.

Ge wvsr1060a2ww washer does not spin or agitate

first look to see if this is a belt drive. If not look for a coupler(round black rubber piece with three holes, three plastic fingers from both sides going in it) from the motor to the gearcase. The motor sit between the pump and gearcase, it will pump out, but not spin.
