I have a Gateway M675X. I need a new fan, according to my local computer store. They said the part number is 1MIYZZ0173. I can't get it from Gateway. Where can I get tha part? The noise is intermitent -- a loud grinding noise.

Re: lap top fan making a lot of noise
Check places like TigerDirect.com or Newegg.com. They have high quality laptop cooling fans & should be able to help you find one that is better than the stock fan at a better price. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Turn it on turn it over and see if the fan is operating. If not power your lap top off and replace the fan. You may have to not use this computer until the fan is replaced it is advisable not to. The smell you have may be dust smell when it gets hot. Clean throughly and make sure that all the dust is out of your computer. Also recommended a lap fan also which goes underneath the laptop to assist with cooling.
Lap tops are very touchy and need to be kept cool at all times otherwise you will be purchasing a new lap top if you do not take care of the cleaning or the cooling or the fan not working or spinning slowly. Check all this out. Critical if you do not understand what I mean take your computer to a local shop for immediate care. I hope this assisted you. John
Make sure when buying a battery that you match the battery numbers on the battery itself and the make and model I have provided a couple of links where I go to get batteries. Click Here I also do most of my shopping at amazon.com they have great prices. Click Here of course if you want it faster you will have to pay a lot more go to a local retail computer store. With your model and make this can be found on the underneath side of the lap top. John
Let the computer cool down completely before restarting. When running the computer, make sure to keep the ventilation clear (do not place on your lap or a blanket/pillow for the time being.)
If the problem continues, you may need to clear the internal fans. A local computer repair shop or Apple store should be able to help you with this if you do not feel comfortable opening the computer.
Best of luck
Often, just dust can make fans noisy. You can unplug everything, take the side cover off of your tower, and blow it out with a can of the air duster you can buy at a computer store, paying close attention to the fans. If you are not comfortable with this, a local shop should be able to clean it up for you for not a lot of cash, and if a fan is really bad, they could identify which one it is for you too.
Typical problem in most computers, the fan is experiencing a "burn out." This means there is either something caught in the fan causing it to create noise, or the motor is going bad. there are two fixes for this problem.
1) open you computer's case according to its manual and remove the system cooling fan and give it a thorough cleaning.
2) you may need to replace the cooling fan with its recommended replacement model.
I assume by charge you mean your power adapter. If this is the case you can purchase any universal power adapter for laptops within an acceptable wattage for your laptop computer. You can either visit your local best buy or circuit city store or purchase one at newegg.com.
Hope this helps. :)
