Check to see if the sound is muted, see if the sound is turned up, restart your laptop, open up realtek hd audio manager and do a sound check.

Perform a System Restore If Necessary:

  • Step 1 - If the sound has been audible from your computer's speakers and is suddenly lost, you may need to perform a System Restore. Click on the " Start" button and then "All Programs."
  • Step 2 - Click on "Accessories," then "System Tools," then "System Restore."
  • Step 3 - Complete the System Restore Wizard. If this doesn't work, read on.

Delete And Reinstall the Original Sound Drivers:

  • Step 1 - Deleting and reinstalling your sound driver may resolve the problem. Your sound driver may have been corrupted or may be missing. The result of this is that the restore utility menu won't be available. For Windows XP, follow these steps.
  • Step 2 - Click on your "Start" button. Click on "Control Panel" and then "System." Next, click on "Hardware," then "Device Manager, then "Sound, Video and Game Controllers."
  • Step 3 - Click on a sound device named in the Device Manager, and then press the Delete key on the keyboard. Click "OK" in the window that appears. Remove all the listed sound devices i this way EXCEPT Audio Codec and Legacy Audio Drivers.

intower18_1.png

  • Step 4 - Restart your computer. Reinstall the deleted drivers using the Driver and Application Recovery CDs that came with your Windows XP system.
  • Step 5 - Visit your computer manufacturer's official website. Check for any updated sound driver software for your sound card. If any, download them along with the installation instructions.

  1. Verify that the lack of sound is not due to faulty speaker connections. A simple way to test it is to substitute the speaker connection with headphones and see if you get any sound.
  2. 2 Open the volume control window by clicking your "Start" button and then "All Programs." Click "Accessories," then "Entertainment," then "Volume Control." Alternatively, just click on the speaker icon that's in your System Tray.
  3. 3 Check the volume and mute settings. If any of the mute check boxes have been checked, uncheck them. If this doesn't work, read on.

COMPUTER LOST SOUND USE TO PLAY MUSIC BUT NOW THERE IS NO SOUND

first check if it is on Mute.

check also the the device manager so you can actually see if the driver software for the sounds is properly installed or needs to be reinstalled.
if that is so you need the drivers and utilities CD that came with the computer. after successfully seeing the driver window check the audio driver and install the driver that have a check mark. after that restart the system.

you can also try to do system restore 1-2 days before you have the problem. to do system restore in windows xp, click start, click accessories, click system tools and click system restore. at the system restore window click next or restore, after that theres another window that will show you the dates you can choose, again choose the date 1-2days before you got the problem the hit next and finish. if the system restore doesnot work try again to choose another restore point.
if you are using windows vista or windows 7, click start and in the start search type in " system restore " and same thing do the same instructions above

    i hope this helps

    My sound is not working

You can try a system restore to get back to a point when the problem with sound was not there. To restore:

Click the Start button, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click System Restore.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click on Choose a different restore point, and click Next. You will see a list of restore points. If you find the date when the sound worked then click on it and click Next. Otherwise click on the check box Show restore point older than 5 days, and then select your preferred date.

The system restore will take a while to complete, when it does, your computer will restart automatically..

When it starts again, see if the problem remain

    Hi,
    try this>
start menu > control panel > sound speech and audio devices > sounds and audio devices > audio > check here is the default device selected for playback the right device if wrong correct it and reboot, if it doesn't work

try this thing go to device manager using following instructions
start>run> type in without quotes 'devmgmt.msc' > sound and game controllers
uninstall the all the drivers from it by right clicking and use the uninstall option
now reboot the system and reinstall all the sound drivers

please also check the mute option on the speaker present on the taskbat in bottom right usually

if this also doesn't work then
what we can do is do system restore to go back to a date when the sound was working but system restore will lead to loss of all the settings and programs that were installed after the date we restore it to.
