SOURCE: The speedometer n my 1999 Sportster 1200 has

This depends on whether it is an electronic speedo or a mechanical speedo.
The electric speedo has a sensor near the rear of the engine. Sometimes a very small piece of metal will get stuck on the end of the sensor and the speedo will stop working. Remove the bolt holding the sensor into the engine case and carefully pull the sensor out. Wipe it off and reinstall it. If the speedo still does not work, it's probably something in the speedo itself.

On a mechanical speedo, a cable from the front wheel drives the speedo. The cable or the speedo drive unit may be bad. To check the cable and drive, lift the bike off the ground, disconnect the cable from the rear of the speedo. Turn the front wheel and see if the cable is turning. If it is, it's probably alright. I'd still pull the cable out of it's housing and lubricate it with some grease. If the cable is turning, the cable and drive unit is alright. The speedo may be broken.

Crane hi-4n single fire ignition installed in my 1995 xlh 1200 sportster Harley davidson .now tacho doesn't work properly

Contact Crane for wiring diagram - although they should have supplied one with the product. You may not have connected the tach wire to the correct output from the ignition module.

I have a 1995 1200 sportster. just recently put a wide glide conversion kit on it. now i got a accel super coil part#140408 that has 2 negative post and 1 positive post. My factory wiring only has to wires...

You have the wrong coil for your bike. This coil is designed to be used with a "single fire" ignition system. If you have the stock ignition system on your bike, it is the original "dual fire" ignition. Harley has used a dual fire ignition system on all their bikes except a very few years ago. Try to exchange the coil for the correct one where you bought it.

Good Luck

I can scan you a copy of the wiring diagram for a 1999 model. Most wiring changes are very minor on the bikes from year to year. Contact me at [email protected] Make sure you remind me of what you need.

1988 sportster 1200-

try swapping out the wires. just grab two wires off the old lady's car and give it a spin, if all is well put her wires back and buy you a new set. could be the coil tunneling. ohm meter may or may not show up a problem. stock dual fire coil should run 3 to 5 ohms. on the primary. if you have a single fire set up with two coils you could have damaged the electronics if you have them and the power transistor that drives the coil is shot.
