Question about Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra MP3 Player
I was trying to upgrade my mp3 players firmware and then was supposed to upload new firmware, after formating unit...Tried to to restart precedure but software does't detect my player even though Xp does.Tried to upgrade drivers, anything that would help from Creative Web site. Even the creative web site could'nt help me with there software upgrades. Becuase it won't detect. unit says firmware problem and it asks me to reinstall firmware but how can this be done if it won't be dected by software. I bought a after market usb cord for my player 2.0 to 5 pin mini B is this my problem? I would hate to think I ruined my player? Does the cords matter? I lost orginal cord. Thanks Travis
I rolled back to wmp 10 and wmp 9.5 runtime, player was recognised and was able to load firmware now working fine, although Im having to use wmp10 and reload all mp3 and wma files from computer, too scared to reload wmp 11 in case problem starts again.

With Media Player 10 not 11 timing is everything, try turning on player just when you try to upload software during detection, make sure it is plugged in to computer, when unit fires up software will automatically detect where as before it wouldn't, may take a couple of tries but it works. Another user gave me this idea. I'm not the genius who figured this out.

Have a look at this thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/307045
It worked for mine...
I didn't have the WMP11, but it still wouldn't work.
Remind me to leave well alone next time...

You probably have Winders Media Player 11. If you can find another computer that has WMP 10, you can use that computer to do the firmware upgrade, then go back to the original computer. Thingsa should work fine. Otherwise, you need to unistall WMP 11 and WMP11 runtime. Another case of Billy messing us up. And don't even get me started about vista....
