Have a new emachine from Gateway. Right out of box. The laptop mouse pad is not responding. Is there a 1-800 number for technical support?

Gateway Pointer Unresponsive

To troubleshoot this problem, first you must get a USB mouse and connect it to the laptop. Now, there are various laptop that have the ability to deactivate the pad control, it's different for every laptop, so you should check on the keyboard if you see anything that resemble the mouse pad. If it does, press it. There also could be a driver problem, just in case re-download the drivers by going to the Gateway website and click on the support tab. Just follow the instructions on the website. You should have an icon at the bottom right of your screen, where the date, battery, etc... are. Right click the mouse pad icon (if any) and check your options. If you need more help I'll be more than glad to help you out, but I'll be needing more info as to the laptop. Best of luck.

Gateway Laptop with windows 8. Mouse pointer gone and won't come back

See if the mouse pad has been accidentally turned off. This can be done via the "Function" button on your Gateway laptop. To enable your mouse clicker again on your Gateway, head on over to the "Control Menu" in Windows and double-click on the "Control Panel" icon. Click on the "Mouse" option under the "Printers and Other Hardwareicon1.png" tab. In the next menu that pops up, click on the tab listed as "Device Settings." From this menu, you should be able to locate a listing for the mouse pad on your Gateway laptop. Click on this listing. From here, you should be able to enable the mouse again. Click "OK."
  • Head over to the official Gateway site online (see Resources). The above enabling of the mouse device under "Device Settings" may not have worked. Make your way to the "Software and Drivers" area of the site.
  • Check over your Gateway manual and find your specific serial number for your machine. Enter the number into the Gateway site when prompted and check to see if any driver updates exist for your mouse on your machine. If so, click to download the update, and then double-click the file on your computericon1.png to install it. Restart your Gateway laptop to have the changes take place. Your mouse should now work.

    Dell 1420 the twoon touch pad don't respond and the usb ports don't respond so i cannot connect a mouse neither can use the touch pad buttons I am dead on the water help!

    LOL, didn't you know windows 7 was just a tad bit better than vista? Why do you think microsoft will be coming out with windows 8 in the coming months by the fall of this year. They keep trying to get it right.

    Go to Dell's site and see if there are Window's 7 drivers for your model. If not, try downloading and installing the Windows Vista drivers. Right now, you might not have a driver or a good driver.

    Get online and got to In the google search box type: "Dell Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers and the Chipset (which has the usb ports).

    Gateway nv5 mouse pad frozen in the middle of screen.

    Return the laptop to the place of purchase, the sensor pad has failed, or device driver issue.

    Touchpad is off on eMachines E627

    Check out the button on the left of the power button that disable it. If the
    light is on the mouse pad is locked.

    When i use my touch pad on my brand new Gateway just to use my mouse it does other functions such as zooming or scrolling up/down. There is no divider on my touch pad so when i go to use my touch pad it...

    There are some things you should do on your own:

    1) Gather information. You need to know your Gateway model and S/N, Windows version (XP, Vista, 7, 32bit or 64bit)
    To check windows version: Right-click My Computer or Computer from Start menu, choose properties. You should be able to see the Windows version here

    2) Go to Gateway website:
    Click on the "Notebooks" tab and input your S/N.

    3) Scroll down to "Touchpad Drivers" section and download the latest driver for your model. Be sure to save the file where you can find it.

    4) Install the new driver. It may be helpful to uninstall the old driver first: Start>>Right-click (My)Computer >> Manage >> In left pane, Device Manager >> In Right Pane, click plus sign next to, Mice and Other pointing devices >> Right -click the touchpad and click Uninstall, be sure to check the box, "Remove Software".

    See if this gets better. If not, the touchpad/Palm rest needs to be replaced, but getting Gateway to do it (sounds like they tried) may be tough.

    At least if you install the new driver, you may be able to disable it permanently, and then use a wireless mouse (which usually is much nicer anyway).

    Emachines laptop e525 mouse pad not working at all so cannot use everything else starting up as normal

    Look at the middle cover (above the keyboard). there are two buttons that touch the power switch, the one to the left enables/disables the touchpad. If it shows an orange light it is disabled. Just press it, and be careful not to hit it when turning unit on.

    Mouse moves on its own

    Your palm might be brushing on the touch pad while you are typing that is probably why the cursor jumps to a different location. as for disabling the touch pad I think that it is not possible unless you install a synaptics driver for your laptops touch pad.

    Mouse Pad is not working

    Did this start happening right after a change in the system? IE: a new installation or update. Reboot pc and tap f2 while it is starting. That should get you to safemode. While there uninstall and new software you added. If you did not install anything new, still go to safe mode and post again what you see.
