Question about Sirius Starmate ST2 Satellite Radio Receiver

Starmate 2 power jack

The female jack in the receiver has come loose and I'm simply wondering if it can be repaired and where that would be done in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Audio jack needs to be replaced

usually the male jack is bad before female on audio plugs but here may be just broken joint from jar or jerk but you could try fresh male first

tuners eat power and are tuned warm if its being intermittent may try fresh power happened to my first xm unit the unit will last for a decade on all the time the power adapter will last a few seasons at best

will come apart .....back of quality exacto blade snap the two halves apart slowly desolder the copper wire fm antenna lead on black side frees the mobo its just wedged in there on the PCB with a little solder now you can see

the joints on the female jack could of cracked from pad just touch em up with some solder but remember itl be your pad next time he ha lovely surface mount solderpaste can break at times not necessarily design flaw

don\'t get surface mount pads to hot know how to solder get the iron fully up before hitting it 1 1000 2 1000 done

put it this way if you can see the unit has been too disturbed youll need more diasecting and a parts to repair you can find parts of similar size but unlikely to find correct orientation for mobo without Mouser or parts manufacturer you have to nichrome wire it and get to more of PCB to handle the traces not hardly room without desolder more parts to see whats up
if your undecided send it in

.... hell the whole industry is there in the palm of your hand he ha

Says updating channels 0% complete. Has been doing this for a number of days. Contacted Sirius and they say they can't help me.

Antenna jack is busted, or you have no signal (also due to a bad antenna jack). Without a signal, it will just stay at that screen, since it's trying to download the update. You can purchase repair services for your model on eBay.

I have a sirius starmate st2 and it goes on but won't stay on and just turns itself off. Is there any way to repair this?

Your power jack needs to be replaced. You can buy a repair service on eBay. You'll need a new power jack if you'd like to repair it yourself, which you'd need to take from another radio.

Radio shows antenna not deteted or acquiring signal but does not work . antenna and all connections are good, ??

The problem is likely the actual connection inside the Starmate. It sounds like you have tried alternate antennas, which can only mean the unit itself has an issue. What has likely happened is the antenna jack inside the radio has come loose and is no longer making a connection, in which case it could be repairable. Otherwise there are plenty of other 12v Sirius receivers compatible with the same connections if you are looking to replace the head unit.

Problems with the power cord. Loses power.

You have to open it up, break it down carefully to 4 pieces. There are 4 solder points on the female part of power socket. With the radio on the table, have the power socket on your right bottom corner. Apply rosin core solder to the 3 points 0 1
2 3 Use a 15 watt iron from Radio Shack. Solder .032 dia. Carefully put it back together.

I have the same problem. It happens even more with a generic universal power cord instead of the Sirius brand one.
