I lost my keyless entry and purchased a replacement on line, it looks the same as my original, it is a Honda keyless remote. It came with programming instructions. According to the Honda dealers I have contacted, based on my VIN my car has factory keyless system. The replacement remote came with programming instructions identical to those I read here for a '98 Civic, however, I cannot get it to program using these instructions. One dealer told me I would have to have the original factory radio, which I no longer have as it did not have a cd player, just am/fm cassette. Any ideas on why it won't program? Thanks in advance.
If you still have the factory radio, there is a way to split the power wire for the factory radio to the aftermarket radio. All you will need are the power and ground for your aftermarket radio, so the rest of the wires should be untouched on the plug for the factory radio. You can simply re-install the radio within the dash and retain the keyless entry as well as restoring your dome light function. Here's a PDF of some instructions. If you did not keep the radio, I would suggest looking online or ins ome junk yards, because it is needed. www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Honda/PDF/466013.pdf
