I was told the motherboard needs replacing

If this is true are they very expensive to replace it a laptop without a warranty and I wanted to know if it would be worth repairing or just buying a new one.

Buy a new laptop.
If you have an old laptop you will find it real hard to get new parts for it.
Just get a new one and save yourself the hassle.

However if you do want to replace your motherboard, just check what type of license you have for your OS. Usually laptops come with an OEM license, meaning if you replace the motherboard, chances are real good you will need to get a new OS. Check with your vendor.

Cheers.

If it is indeed the motherboard, they can range from $80-300 sometimes. Labor as well would be expensive, as it can take an hour or (at max) 2 hours at $100/hr (what they charge at my shop). So unless you've got the patience to take a laptop apart and put it back together with the screws in the right holes then I'd say you're better off buying a new laptop -- some are as low as $300 these days!

Video is not coming and sometimes video is coming with lot of disturbance.... when i checked it with the repair shop, they told that the GPU is damaged and i need to replace the motherboard...it is true?...

Yes, it's true: the GPU , that in your pc is part of the motherboard, has died. But before replacing the entire motherboard try to install an separate video card - the rest of the motherboard might be working. If they have tried that and it failed then yes the only thing left is to replace the motherboard

My laptop does not swith on. As consulted a technician, they have told that the graphics card is corrupted. Please assist. I need it repaired ASAP.

If the video card is gone then the only thing you can do is to replace it - the only ones that have it are the dealers. Go to the one that sold you the laptop and ask it to replace it. Beware, it will be expensive.

removed the battery of your motherboard then try to run your computer without the battery installed in your motherboard this will reset your bios factory default so no need a system password.

I need to replace the motherboard for a Dell Inspiron 5160 Laptop because the AC adapter connector is damage due to wear and tear. I do not know the correct type of motherboard to order. Any suggestions?

Hi there.
Instead of replacing the motherboard you can have a new adapter soldered on to the motherboard providing there is no more further damage to it, doing this will save you a small fortune as laptop motherboards are expensive.
All you have to do is phone around reputable PC repair shops and ask them if they do repairs on the AC adapters, I'm sure you will find one that does.
If really do want a replacement motherboard please post back.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Sound card is broken

If your 5150 is off warranty, you have a serious problem.
Replacing the motherboard in a laptop is a very tricky and potentiallydangerous thing. If you are not a trained technician, I would recommendthat you take it to a professional.
Also, the cost of the motherboard and its installation is most likelyto be close to the price of a new or used machine. Perhaps this is abetter option.
Another thought occurs to me, if the machine works fine in every other way maybe you can learn to live without sound?

notebook mainboards are very expensive! mine was nearly 400.00 bucks, unless you buy used, i did the first time-the onboard sound was broke. so i should have replaced the whole thing. the cost of new notebooks have fallen alot lower. you may consider this. good luck!

Mother board crashed

Most likely replacing your motherboard will cost a ton of money (either the part, or the work and labor will cost a lot) . It would probably cost less to buy a used laptop with the same specs:

If your laptop is under warranty, disregard what I just said, but if it isn't I would sell your broken laptop on ebay, and buy a new or used one.

If you want to keep your old data, you can just swap out your hard drive.

Hope this helps.
