It means either you need to format the memory card or it has been formatted. A formatted memory card is a term that means to erase all images permanately and wipe the card clean. To format the card, go into the menu and format it there. If you have images on the card and don't want to lose them, download them to your computer first.

Card not initilized? what does this mean?

It means the card has not been formatted, or that the camera doesn't recognise the format, but that might not be the full story. You don't say whether this is a new card or one you used before. I'm going to assume this is a new card (otherwise, it means the card has become corrupted or there is a camera fault).

The first thing to try is formatting the card. There is a function in the camera menus to do this. If it won't format or gives an error when you try, then the card may be incompatible. Formatting deletes anything already on the card.

Maybe it is having trouble with the size of the memory. Memory cards have grown enormously in capacity in the last couple of years, and even relatively new cameras may not be able to cope with the memory size of the newest cards.

If it is a new SD card, then maybe it is actually an SDHC card. "SD" cards larger than about 1GB are usually SDHC cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different electrically. Many cameras won't work with SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible

A "Protected card" message keeps

To format your card is a method of outputting data in a specific format. You can do that from the digital camera, in the menu look out for the Format option and use it, or you can plug it into a computer (through a card reader) and once it shows up in My Computer, right click on the drive letter and select format.

What does "memory card error" mean

It usually means that you are using an SDHC card in a camera that only understands SD cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different. Many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

If that isn't the problem, it may mean that your card needs formatting or has become corrupted, which will be fixed by formatting it. Formatting deletes everything on the card.

If that isn't the problem, then there may be a fault with the card or camera.

It is said in the manal that to format memory card "be sure to use this camera to format memory cards previously used in other devices the first time yhey are inserted into the Coolplix S3000",...

It just means that if you want to use a memory card that is not new and was used in another camera or a computer, you first need to format it in the camera. Also, new cards should be formatted in the camera.

When i turn my camera on it says "card erro" what does that mean?

This may mean that the camera does not recognise the card because it is of too high a capacity (SDHC cards are not the same as SD cards) or it may mean the card needs formatting (because it is new or has become corrupted). There is a function in the camera menus to format or initialise a memory card.

I don't have the booklet that comes with the the camera and don't have a clue as what it means that card is not intialized

It means that your card needs to be formatted. Download any pics from the card using a card reader since formatting will erase it. Then, insert the card into your camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions. If you need a card reader, this is a great one and only $13 at Walmart. 4559aa4.jpg
