Sounds like print head is not engaging home switch or sensor. open the printer and look for any such switch to sense print head at home position.

I was in the process of making copies, when my Epson RX700 suddenly made a loud grinding noise. It then stopped working and displayed an error message: Scanner error occurred...Please see...

There are two drives in the printer. One moves the print head (cartridge) back and forth across the paper. Check to see if the "rubber band" drive belt is slipping or broken off. There is also a roller motor which feeds the paper. This has nylon gears which can make a grinding sound if one of the gears gets stuck. Make sure there are no pieces of paper stuck in the gears.

It's says there is a paper jam and there isn't, then the ink cartriages keep popping up and makes loud noise...

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button.
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck

Printer heads won't move into view....just makes a grinding noise. All lights are flashing. Thanks!!!!

with it making a "grinding" noise, I first wonder if you have children. if so, then open the lid and/ or look in the paper feed area for plastic tools, band aids, etc. (worked in tech support and once had a gerbil stuck in a printer by it's tail! OUCH!)

if not, then try this procedure that I found else-where on Fix-Ya.

"Turn the printer on while holding down both the ink and paper buttons. When the paper light flashes release both buttons, then hold down the ink button for approx. half a minute until the printer lights flash again then release it. That resets the printer.”

Paper Jam...grinding noise

The print head lock is probably not retracting. Look for the white plastic block that pokes through from the paper feed side just in front of the head. Push it in with your finger and move the head to the middle by hand. Now turn the machine on. Then turn it off using the correct method. Then turn it on once more. If it starts grinding again, you screwed the feed mechanism when tugged out the jammed paper (probably pulled it backward through the feed instead of making it go forward and out the correct exit). If this is the case, you may as well bin it. If it in warranty, you can try to get a claim for repair.
