I can not log on as USB ports do not work. Keyboard and mouse are not functioning as I get a keyboard failure. The computer was booting to desktop but I could not access without KB or Mouse functionality.
I removed the battery to reset BIOS (thought BIOS problem). However, it will not boot up completely and is asking for F1 or F2 setup at DOS boot. How can I get in if USB's are not functional?
Is this a motherboard or simply a chipset upgrade? How can I get further?
-   I have the exact same problem with the XPS400 , it just straight died. Computer starts up but usb is not powering on. I've plugged usb devices in just to be sure, headset and phone for instance and neither powers on through it. I was thinking of trying a pci ps2 adapter but I doubt that will be recognized by the Bios

-   Hi, I have the same problem on Dell XPS 400/9150. Did you manage to find the reason?
A few months ago, my PC suddenly died. As it was still under warranty, Dell came down, replaced the motherboard, but when they booted it up, the new motherboard burnt! They replaced it again, but since that I could never get my soundcard working again (even after replacing it).
Now, the USB ports suddently stopped working.-   valentin2000

-   My Dell Dimension 9150 Computer is just over one year old and now I have the same problem no usb function.
I personally think it is the motherboard, the south bridge on the motherboard does the processing of the USB and All the I/O in this case I think the southbridge is busted.

Cant remember the exact location for this, but you need to access the CMOS config when starting up. Dig around a little and you will find the settings that will allow you to start you system with a usb mouse and keyboard. Hope this helps. If you have any idea where I can get drivers for my motherboard (EPoX EP-4PDA5) that would be great. I already tried EPOX's website, and no joy.
