    On December 10, 2008, i purchased one of my sisters, the DELL OPTIPLEX GX260 COMPLETE SYSTEM 2.4GHZ 512MB 60GB XP PS/2 from EBAY. What is happening now is that about after about a month, when we start to boot up up the GX260 system, it takes a while for the sytem to boot up. I will press buttons but nothing happens. There is this dark blue screen that stays on for about 10-15 minutes with cursor in the top left hand corner just blinking. Now after about 10-15 minutes the Window bar screen will come up. Sometimes it will show the operating system info or will just go to the sign in page. Dell is saying that the files has been corrupted and that memory needs to be restored by formatting the system and reinstalling the operating system by using a restore cd. I do not want to do and this is not the problem. Is there any other way to fix this without formatting this computer. My sister has just been excepting this problem and just sits and waits for the system to come up. She do not want to format this computer. Please assist me with any solutions. Thank you. 2/16/09 2:46AM CST. Tanyaj.

Bruce, the Dell OptiPlex GX260 normally will be equipped with a PC133 DDR1 128MB RAM module. It is recommended that you upgrade to higher memory bus DDR1 memory module, for example, 512MB/1GB DDR 1 running on 266 MHz to 533 MHz.

Hope this helps. Make sure u come back here if u still have further request.

    Bruce, glad you responded.

    I need you to try this, but be very careful as this will mess up your system.

    1st, you need to boot into your windows. After you are in there, open the Registry Editor but going to Start - > Run, and type "regedit", without the inverted comma.

    Once you are in there, go to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters

    on the right side of the screen, you will see a EnablePrefetcher,

    set the value by double click on it, and insert the value "2", without the inverted comma.

    0 = no prefetch
    1 = Application
    2 = Boot
    3 = Application and Boot.

    Try this and re-calculate the time you need to boot into the windows.

    Glad to help.

Sounds like you have a video driver issue. See if you can boot from your "Dell Resource" CD or any other bootable CD disk. Power on the computer and tap the F12 key to get to the "Boot Selection Menu". Insert the "Resource CD" into the CD-ROM drive. Select "Boot from CD/DVD drive" from the selection menu. If the computer boots from the CD drive then you Operating System Software is the problem.

Do the following tasks:
Reinstall your video driver

Check for registry issues
Start the computer in safe mode and run System Restore
Also Removing the graphics driver in safe mode might work for you. Just remove it via Device manager.

If black screen still appears then use a system utility software like ReginOut.
Hope it works for you.

When i turn my computer on it loads but then a erro message comes up so i want to do a pc reset and i have looked online useing my laptop and it tells me when i see a blue dell splash bar come up to press...

The procedure is actually correct. but if your computer is fast you may miss it. try this, upon turning the computer on, start pressing the CTRL+F11 immediately. if you have reformated your HDD then most likely you've lost the recovery partition for the PC Restoration.

Computer booting up. at least 5 min. or more.

You can use the following link to check , why the computer is giving performance issues.

Slow system performace could be caused due to multiple issues . Namely less free space on the hard-drive, too many startup programs, virus or spy ware.

Dell dimension 3000. Just Black Screen no Windows XP.

From your description, you were able to boot the machine properly in Safe Mode. While in Safe Mode, change the video resolution to the lowest possible (color depth does not matter at this point). You should also check that you are configured for single monitor operation if your video card supports multiple monitors. Reboot the machine normally. If all goes well, you can readjust your video settings for a higher resolution again.

Get the discs that came with your computer and boot off them. When your computer is on the dell screen when you first turn it on it will say something like "hit f3 for boot menu". You need to hit the button it specifies and select your cd drive. It will say press any key to boot from cd, and as you may have already guessed you want to hit any key. Then when a windows screen comes on you need to hit r and follow the onscreen instructions from there.

Screen Wiggles, CPU Shuts Self Off, Powers Up Very Slowly

Hmm... Any errors on the screen?

Could be a power supply. Fluctuations in that can cause power drops, which would be visible in the video card, and if severe enough, cause the PC to shut off. There are 4 screws and one 1 wire holding those in. It would take about 10 minutes to replace and probably cost you $40-$50 in parts.

To have Geeks do it: Probably $100.

Boot up problems and running very slow

The problem is that you have lots of starup item in your Msconfig.
You need to disable all the startup items and some none Microsoft services.

Start->run->Msconfig Now you can disable services and startup items.

Instead of using this you can use

1. TuneUp-Utilities-2008:

You can run good anti spyware on system from

and run this tool
