Question about Sanyo DP42746 42 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

Sanyo dp42746 Suddenly no picture, minutes later, no sound.

Can you explain in a little more detail, how to test the main y board. I am trying to check the power supply as you suggested but cannot find exactly where I am supposed to unplug. When you say just to the left of the power supply box, are you talking the box that the cord runs from to plug into the wall?? Thanks

You were correct. This is my problem. I have found the y-main for sanyo but they look different than my y-main. The y-main I have (and all the boards inside) has a samsung logo on it. I found the Samsung y-main and it does look like mine. Would you recommend buying the Samsung model or the Sanyo? Are they interchangeable? Weird. Also, not sure what exactly the top and bottom buffers are??? Just want to ensure I order the right parts. Thanks a million!!!

I have unplugged the yMain board from the power, and the electricity sound in the main Y went away, but they screen is still black. Does that mean i have more issues besides the y main and the ybuffers? I appreciate your time.

The parts came directly from Sanyo so I am guessing they are new. I do think there is a strong possibility of error on the tech's part but before I tear into it and try to figure it out myself, how confident are you that this will fix the problem? (I only ask because I have not done this before and it will take me much longer than average to read the schematics and figure it out) Not many choices for tv repair where I live so I truly appreciate your help!!!

My 42" went out today - 2 years old. I took the back off an noticed a ossillation noise coming from that Y board. I wrote down the board number and googled it and found this site. The scarry thing is I have a 52" of the same Sanyo in the den...........but this sounds like a Samsung problem. They make that board and it looks like its used in a lot of different brands.

Slap, what do you think of the idea of opening up the 52" and swapping the boards to see if it works before I buy? Do you have any idea whats taking out these boards? I'd hate to have 2 TV's down.

The power supply board is the large board dead center of the unit. To the left of the Power supply is the Y main. Uplug the connector running from the Power supply to the Y main. Its a large plug. Just unhook it and the set will then come on with no picture if the Y is bad. If it does order the Ymain and the top and bottom y buffers.

heres a copy of the letter I sent to sanyo. This is such a common problem, I thought something should be done about it. Just email me or the company if you agree. Sanyo's email is support@sanyotv.com To Whom It May Concern, I purchased a flat screen television model number DP42746 about 3 years ago. The picture and sound just randomly shut off and never came back. After doing some research, I found that many other people are having the same issues in the same time frame. Not only are the televisions failing with the same errors, they are also lasting roughly the same amount of time. It may be a coincidence but these products are all conveniently failing right after your service warranty expires. In the past, televisions would normally last 10 years or more. It is unacceptable to ask such a high price for an item and rig it to fail just outside of your warranty limits. If this were an isolated case, I would attribute other factors to the televisions failing but there are THOUSANDS of complaints, same model, same time frame. Your company cannot continue to do business in this way and are liable to make reparations to every last customer who trusted your company and was let down. I am currently gathering a list of people with documentation as to these issues after repeatably being ignored by customer service and representatives of your company. Your company seems to be unconcerned with a few people not purchasing products, but maybe as we unite they will get the hint. Doing the right thing is not always cost effective but people with morals should do it anyway.

The buffers are attached to the Y main, on the left side of the board. Samsung, sanyo, several others all have the same boards. As long as they are the right part # just go for the best price. Check www.shopjimmy.com for used boards.

Where the parts new or used? If used you probably have a bad board, or the tech didn't install them correctly.

Sanyo turn it on green light comes on and stays on but tv will not model dp42746

open back panel and look for error code

to test all y sub boards remove the main power connection to the y main and turn the tv on if it powers on one of those boards are bad.. remove both sub boards. and plug in the y main. if it powers on then that board is good either, put your multimeter on 2k omh and test the upper ysub boards black connector, the top 2 pins with negative to the 5th pin positive. you should read 500-1k ohm if its way under 100 there is a short.

the bottom ysub board place the multimeters black probe on the bottom 2 pins of the black power conection and the red on the 4th pin.. results are the same.

low resistance means theres a short in the board.

Green light comes on no picmor sound

Hello Afox5, hi, make sure that there are no user controls or setup that are out of order. as a backgrounder, TV of this type mostly has two boards, power supply and main board. On the power supply board, this has two section, primary that deals with mains voltage and secondary that deals with TV supply current requirements, if you see green light mean that power on the secondary section of the power supply board of your TV is working, but it does not mean that the power supplied to the main board is correct, the supplied current produced by the power supply section to the main board that controls sound and picture needs to be checked, so voltages are needed to be checked and loose wiring, or screws needs tightening, are a common trouble, but some go to extremes like replacement of any boards.

Sanyo Vizon 42" Plasma DP42746 Was using tv when I heard a click and I lost all audio and video, could not change the channel or adjust volume. Tried unplugging and sitting for 10 minutes. Plugged back...

This is a common problem with these TVs. You can download the official Sanyo repair manual for this TV (DP42746) at http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/43343/sanyo_dp42746.html. I uploaded it here when I had the same issue with my TV last year. The solution is almost always to replace the Power Board (Y-Main) and the Upper and Lower Y Buffers. The parts and costs (from Sanyo in July 2009) are listed below (NOTE: Sanyo will not ship these parts to anyone but a repair shop): 1. V4 Y-Main (Y-Sustain) Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01200A, Alt Part # LJ41-02759A) - USD $139.00
2. Upper Y-Buffer Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01202A, Alt Part # LJ41-02760) - USD $64.00
3. Lower Y-Buffer Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01203A, Alt Part # LJ41-02761A) - USD $64.00
Sanyo charges USD $10.50 for shipping, which brings the total cost for parts to USD $277.50. From my research, a shop would probably charge between USD $500 and $700 to do this repair. FYI - there is a class action lawsuit pending against Sanyo for this issue. The V4 Y-Main (Y-Sustain) Circuit Boards fail VERY frequently in this TV due to overheating. Hope this helps.

Our sanyo dp42746 went black made a pop sound and would not turn back on no power light or nothing

Most likely a power supply board went bad. the pop sound is bad capacitor on the board. Most bad capacitors will look like this: 18976c2.jpg
The other picture below shows a normal capacitor in the middle, but two bad capacitors on the sides of it. One with the dome top and one leaking. 5d53c3a.jpg

You can try repairing the board by replacing the capacitors or replace the whole power supply board. Most replacement boards can be found at a good price at Shopjimmy.com or Ebay.

Hi, had a question about what you said, have a minute?

You need to replace the top and bottom y buffers when you replace the Ymain. If not, it will just go back out. If you have space, wire a 12 volt mini cpu fan near the left of the Ymain and the buffers, should last alot longer that way.

Well I have the same problem with green light and no sound and no pix. After i opened it all up i checked the main power supply board and found all fuses good and the 12vdc side of the board dead. My best guess is this power board has many problems. All the driver boards for the screen are located on the perimiter of the screen. If you loose part of the power supply board you will loose part of functions of the tv. At this time i am looking to replace the entire power board. Will let you know the location and fix soon as i find it. jim jamesgibson@nycap.rr.com
