CD/DVD player is no good (does it play other discs and are they DVD or CD that it plays, could be a dirty laser use cleaning disc), the disc is not compatible with your player (DVD disc in CD player), corrupt disc, no auto-run on disc, no files on disc. The list is quite long. have you tried to read the disc in my computer screen (presuming your using windows) as the files might be in a compressed format (.zip or .rar) in which case you might have to unpack them. If the disc is not recognised at all try it on a different machine (a friends) and see if it will read on that if it does then copy the files to a new disc and try again. other than that you can always go the the makers web site and download any drivers from there support area's. Any further help required let me know.
Is the drive you are using a DVD writer or only a DVD reader? The drive that writes to RW disks is labeled DVD/RW or DVD Recordable. These are the only drive types that will read and write a DVD/RW disc.
Nate, How old is your laptop? From what I can find, it looks like the Optarc 5540 is indeed a DVD±R/RW/R-DL burner. It should read anything you put in. If you have the driver, I might try to reinstall that first, but if this is a fairly new system (Under warranty) I would definitely pursue a replacement.
