Dell E156FP Monitor Problem

I am having a problem with my monitor. When I turn it the picture comes up for about 3 seconds and then goes black. If I turn it off and then back on it does the same thing. It continues to get power but the picture will not stay on. Any suggestions on what I can do?

If the screen is not completely black (i.e. just very very dim, turn the lights off to see) try using the controls at the bottom of the monitor to reset to factory settings (all settings). I have had this problem with two dell monitors so far and this seems to work.

Dell monitor E156FPb went black

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My dell monitor will only turn on for a few seconds then it goes black. it doesnt turn of it just goes black and I can keep doing it and it will keep going black.

Hello,

The picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

Monitor turns on and turns off 2 seconds later

compnerdtuls, You have a monitor with a sick "switch-mode-power-supply" ... It goes into PARTIAL or FULL shutdown mode because it has detected a FAULT CONDITION with itself or the inverter circuit. Why don't you go and watch some productive video clips at youtube to see if you might be capable of doing the repair or contracting out the work needed to bring your unit out of the BLACK SCREEN Of DEATH mode. You may even want to visit (FYI) a site that may have some info on possible cause of your monitor's symptom, www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm . I'm 12fixlouie on fixya.

Dell 1704 monitor goes to black screen after one

Hi my name is Rain.
Ok so that im clear on the problem. your monitor will come on but in a matter of seconds it goes to a black screen?
If this is the problem. The answers you seek will most likely
be in your video card.
Try this test:
  • Unplug monitor from the computer.
  • Turn on monitor .
  • Look for monitor self test screen.
If you see the monitors self test screen then your problem indeed is
the video card . You will need to replace the video card inside of the computer.
