Go to www.tomtom.com and look for POI (points of interest) download these and get your divice to flag them. There are loads to chose from. It is true that they are only good if up-to-daye but most people use their device daily. If you can join map-share there too, it will allow you to correct map errors along with other users.

A route cannot be calculated to your destination. Please check your routing preferences and try again. Appears on screen with old and new destinations and Post Codes. Can you help please?

It means that no roads/routes exist to drive to the destination you inputted, sorry just the messenger. Is your map software up to date, if not update it, that may be the issue.. I update mine every 4 or so months.

While in route, if on major route, it switches to back and secondary roads. Even when I know it's a direct route, it doesn't want me on there

Check your map routing settings, if you have it as avoid major highways then it will avoid major roadways and take you on secondary roads.

How do I get my Garmin 1350 gps to take the highways not the back roads. Have tried it on "shortest distance" and "fastest" doesn't work either way

Hello,

Setting the Avoidances to Enabled and checking off the box beside the Unpaved Roads should avoid most back roads unless the back roads are paved.
Setting the GPS Route Preference to the Faster Time will usually route via the highways unless it is actually faster to take the secondary roads.
In any case it is usually a good idea after creating the route to view the map and have familiarize yourself with the route. Via points can then be added to modify the route as necessary.

I have a Garmin Nuvi and while driving it shows me off route when I am driving on the correct road.

Try updating the maps. Mine is doing the same thing and I do believe by updaging the maps it can fix that. Roads do change constantly.

Pioneer gps avic-n1, avic - N2

I am sorry to inform you that the program you are using does not specify between personal vehicles or commercial vehicles.

This unit was created for use in personal cars and trucks without taking RV's into consideration. Pioneer should have thought about this when they designed the program, because I am sure you are not the only person who has ever put one in an RV.

I checked the service manual and found no reference to anything about commercial use and routes.

I guess you will have to pay very close attention to the signs on the road that display the clearance of low overpasses. There is a good chance that any route you may take will have a sign posted with the clearance and with enough time to be able to make any needed adjustments in your route.

Good luck, be safe, and if there is anything else I can assist you with don't hesitate to ask. I am hear if you need me. I work at an authorized Pioneer repair center, so I have access to just about everything Pioneer makes available.

Just so you know, if your unit ever needs service, this is one of very few that Pioneer does not authorize any of there authorized service centers to repair under warranty. They must be shipped to Pioneer, no exceptions. If it is not under warranty, anyplace can work on them, but it might be difficult getting some of the parts.

Street Map Program for Garmin GPSMAP 295

Detailed road map data, with addresses, hotels, gas stations, etc. can be loaded into a data-card/cartridge/memory-card using Garmin's Mapsource software such as Metroguide or City Navigator. This can be changed as needed via a PC.
The 295 does not have driving routing/guidance through the streets as most of today's GPSs have, but it will show you exactly where you are on the street (but it should be switched to Road mode).
Driving routing is possible on the PC using Mapsource, but ithe route doesn't transfer well to the 295 because of the limits on waypoints.

Route calculation error

I was having the same problem and contacted Garmin support.

What I had done was turned off the Basemap that came with the unit. I only had the mapsource map street map on which I had purchased separately.

The technician basically said the unit needed the basemap to "locate itself". Somehow the basemap supports any maps you purchase separately. That seemed odd but once I turned the Basemap back on it calculated the routes and the error message went away.

If you have the Basemap off, try turning it on from the Map Setup - Information window.

Hope this helped.

Route problem

If you don't have "Detailed Maps" for the area you are travelling in, it will not have adequate map detail to create routes that are not on major highways.

To remedy this, you will need to use another of GARMIN's products... I believe it's called Mapsource City Navigator, and will have to be purchased for the area you are concerned with. This PC software will then allow you to load additional Map Data onto an SD card, which will slip into the slot on the left side of the unit.

You can find out about it at their website www.garmin.com then look in Maps
