Chances are you have lint on the sensor look inside the dryer in the front just in side the door you will see three or four silver wires about flush with the front housing wipe the off and try it if this fails contact a local appliance parts store with your model number and they can get the part num for it
good luck

Problem with Dryer Timer or heating element

The heat cycle must be working for the timer to advance in the Auto Dry setting.
Your heating element and or high limit thermostat is bad.
We need a complete model number to be more specific.

GE Profile Dryer - sensor problem

When I pull up the exploded view of your model, it does not show an individual moisture sensor, but is does show disconnect plug(s) for it. I can only assume that the sensor bars are an intrical part of one of the front bulkhead components. That all being said, the most common reason for your symptoms is when people use fabric softener sheets in the dryer, the sheets leave a waxy type coating on the silver sensor bars inside the drum, near the air inlet to the lint filter. If you clean those two (usually about 4 inch long x about 1/4 inch wide) metal bars off, they will be able to detect the moisture level of the clothing again, and your dryer will work on auto dry again.

Timer only works on Timed Dry Setting

Check your heating element. If one coil of the heating element is burnt out the dryer will heat on the remaining coil, but the timer will not advance in automatic dry.
