Question about Amana Ovens

Oven will not achieve setpoint temperature.

Amana model # ARG7102W
When set at 350, oven preheat beeps at 200 then oven only goes as high as 300 degrees.

Do I need to calibrate the thermostat?
If so, where can I find info on how this is done. (I have no manual)
I know how to calibrate an oven with analog controls, but this one appears to have a circuit board. (?)

    Thanks for the fast response.

    I've already checked the temperature with a remote temperature probe (actually, 2 of them). That's how I know the temperature is not even reaching setpoint at any point of it's cycle.



    I know how to calibrate an oven thermostat (analog control), but this oven has a circuit board and I have no "manual".



    I guess I can simply replace the thermostat, but I just need some confirmation that this is the problem. (?)

You may not need anything. Most people test their oven with a dial type oven thermometer. They are slow to react and often not very accurate. When I test an oven or install a new thermostat, I use a digital thermometer with a remote temperature probe, hanging from the center of the oven, which shows the temp in tenths of a degree. I let the oven cycle on and off at least three times, then take the high and lower readings on the next cycle and average that out to see what the actual oven temp is. Most of the time, if there is a dial type thermometer in the oven it is very slow to react. After 3 to 5 cycles, they often show close to what the actual oven temp is, but the only way to know for sure is to use the more accurate digital thermometer. Most ranges with digital displays can be adjusted + or - about 35 degrees. Check your users manual for this info, but don't mess with it until you have checked the oven with a digital thermometer! Please don't bother rating this solution, as anything but a Fix-Ya drops my score. Thanks.

    I think your problem is that the oven igniter is getting old and thus is not drawing enough amperage to allow the gas safety valve to open. I have seen this many times. Usually, when this happens, the first ignition will take much longer than it did when new. (now perhaps 2 or more minutes, rather than 30 to 90 seconds) Subsequent ignitions are even slower, if at all. Unfortunately your broil igniter is not the same part number as your bake igniter, so you can't just swap them out to test this. Other factors which could cause the same symptoms include low voltage (say 110 or 108 volts instead to 120 to 125) or a poor connection at a modular plug in used on some igniters.

    To make a long story short, replace the igniter before trying anything else. I believe the part number you are looking for is

    31940001 (I think the oven temp sensor is a part number Y0314907) For your model you need additional numbers to make certain of correct part numbers, such as P1143344NW or a similar number, which should also be found on the model / serial number sticker.

Oven won't hold temperature.


If oven is electric pleace check that the heating elements are ok, could be that only one or two elements could be the only heaters hence luck power to maintain temparature when open or gets too slow to preheat.

I will say that is the control board that is not working properly. Have you try to unplugged for phew minutes?, this will reset the current settings. If not, I will star replacing the control board. Good Luck!.

Typically an oven beeps when the interior temperature macthes the temperature where you set the dial. This is an audible signal to that fact and particularly helpful when you need to pre-heat the oven. For example it you want to cook something at 350 degrees, you set the dial at 350. When your oven reaches that temperature it beeps to let you know. Some cooking directions tell you to preheat your oven. In that case, when you set the dial to 350 and wait for the beep...you know you are safe to start your cooking process because the oven is now pre-heated to the temperature you set. If your recipe requires a pre-heated oven, and you don't wait for the beep, your taking a guess at what temperature you're cooking your food. Additionally, if you want to know what the internal temperature of oven is and your oven is heated...you simply turn you dial setting and listen for the beep. Again, if you set your oven at 350 and you want to know how hot your oven is... slowly turn the dial setting. If the oven beeps at 275 then that's how hot your oven has gotten. To let it finish heating to 350 just reset the dial and wait for the beep.

Not sure which model my oven its but it takes a long time to preheat then does get warm enough. I put an oven thermometer in it and if you set it for 400 it beeps that it is up to temperature at 300 then...

HI. this code is indicating that the oven temp sensor is malfunctioning. follow the steps below to address this issue further.

1. Look for welded relay contacts on bake or broil relays. If the relay contacts are welded, replace oven control (also called clock or ERC).

2. For SELF CLEAN models: check door lock operation.

3. Look for a high resistance connection or any other cause of high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit. Check sensor, sensor harness and sensor harness connection at sensor and oven control. Replace sensor if found defective.

Remember: Oven control (ERC) measures resistance of sensor circuit, not actual oven temperature.


The most common oven sensor should be approximately, 1100 ohms when at room temperature. The others may be close to as follows:

100°F - 1143 ohms
200°F - 1350 ohms
300°F - 1553 ohms
350°F - 1654 ohms
400°F - 1753 ohms
500°F - 1949 ohms

click the link  Oven temp sensors sense the temperature is the oven cavity and the temp sensor changes resistance, this change in ohm resistance tells the oven control what temperature the oven cavity at and tells the control to shut off the element or turn it back on. The most common temp sensors used today ( *not all ) are approx 1000-1100 ohm resistance at room temperature ( 70�F )
Some ohm readings and there temperature:
Degrees F    -   Resistance
            100 - 1143 ohms
             200 - 1350 ohms
             300 - 1553 ohms
             350 - 1654 ohms
             400 - 1753 ohms
            500 - 1949 ohms

Oven heats to 200 and indicator dings


Try to set it at 500 degrees and see if it goes off at 350. If it does, then it probably needs calibrating. You can calibrate it by taking the knob off and finding a set screw in the stem where the knob sits. If this is not the problem, you may have to replace the thermostat. By the way, check to see if your temperature probe is not touching the wall of the oven. It will give it a false reading. Let me know if any of these things work and we will go from there.

Amana Convection oven not controlling temp


I have just checked the baking guide in the manual and have found that it may not be us after all. (Maybe this is why they telll us to read the whole manual. Well, I never have) According to the cooking time for Baking, the range is very extensive. For example, an angel cake at 350 could take from 28-50 minutes, buscuits at 375-400 could take 8-16 minutes, layer cakes at 350-375 could take 25-40 minutes, pound cakes at 325-350 could take 45-70 minutes and fresh pies at 400-450 could take 35-60 minutes. Basically, the baking directions on the box means absolutely nothing to use Amana oven owners. We have no choice but to cook our food or baked goods until they are cooked, whenever that may be. :) Linda
