Kool Mate 40 Cord melt down

During the first year Igloo replaced my 12 volt cord twice due to meltdown. The cord gets very hot and the plastic around the fuse eventually deteriorates to the point you can smell it. After the one year warranty they refused to replace the cord blaming a possible voltage problem on my Pontiac Torrent. I measure the voltage to be app. 12.6 Volts. Well below their maximum rated operating voltage of 14 Volts. Is it a cord problem or is the unit drawing to much power?

The unit itself is the problem. You should call coleman customer service and tell them you have been haveing this problem from the start and ask to talk to a manager. Tell them that the cord has been replaced numerous and that you checkd voltage and this is fine. You want a new unit because it has been happening since you bought it and all the keep sending is the cord. Tell them if anythig bad happens pertaining to safety issues that you don,t want to call the better bussiness office and that they will be responsible for any damage done due to a faulty unit. Be professional about it and I am sure they will help you.

I had the same problem on a Coleman Powerchill. I cut the plug off and replaced it with another plug from an old spotlight. Worked fine ever since.

What might causeI my electric mower to slow down and speed up and the electric cord connection has overheated at the mower connection?

there is approximately one OME of resistance per foot of power cord. the power cord must be sized according to the amps drawn. if the cord is undersized the motor will not get enough power. the results are a hot cord and probably a hot plug. a loos plug will also over heat, you may need to replace the outlet in the wall as well, get a 12 AWG cord if you are using a 100 foot cord. I personally would never use a 14 AWG if I had a choose, but if the cord was 25 feet or less that would probably be ok. if you are still using the old cord or if the wall outlet is damaged this could cause the ossolating current.

The electric cord on our Duracraft heater model CZ-600 was very hot to the touch (closest to the plug) -- it burned so hot we could not touch it for more than a second. The heat was at maximum and we...

Look carefully at the plug's connectors to see if thewre is any scorching or otherwise burnt metal...electrical connectors tend to get hot due to the plug being loose(this causes more resistance and thus more heating). As a safe bet...the parts aren't expensive...I would replace both the power cord on the heater AND the outlet recepticle

When we started using toro leaf blower this year the extension cord started smoking and the plastic started to melt. Is it the leaf blower or extension cord that's faulty. Both are fairly new.

You must use at least a 12 guage extention cord . Your current cord mostlikely can not handle those amount of amps for long duration of time.

I have a 51592 Rake and Vac Toro blower. Yesterday, when using the blower (all I use) the cord got hot and started to melt both the blower cord and extension cord; First time ever I have had this problem.

If it is getting hot enough to melt the electric cord and the extension cord, get rid of it. The over-heating is most likely from the brushes in the motor, which means, unless you are a licensed electrician or know one, the unit should be scrapped. Replacement parts for these electric blowers are priced such that it is cheaper to buy a enw one than to fix the old one.

Prong on dryer plug gets hot and burns plastic on plug

You are right. There is not a good connection somewhere. When you say your replaced the cord, did you also replace the plug? Make sure all fittings are tight. Where it is melting, this is where the problem probably is. You can also check the receptacle and see that the wires to it are tight as well. There is a build up of heat or resistance in that area tha tis causing your problem. let me know how you do. Good luck.
