Touro 1tb is lite up, but this isnt showing on my computer, it was working perfectly fine yesterday and now it doesnt, I have tried a different USB cable and this hasnt worked, please advise?

Hello Stellafox,

The issue you describe is generally a simple hardware failure but without further diagnostics it would be impossible to advise you as to where the failure resides. If you are technically capable, follow the directions below, if you even have to consider how capable you are, take it to a repair shop and ask them to try these steps.

First, connect the device to a different computer, listen carefully for clicking scratching or ticking sounds, if you hear any report back including your country and state/province and I can recommend a nearby recovery facility. If not proceed to check within computer management(Windows) or in disk utility(Mac) to see if the device is registered. If not remove it from it's enclosure (voiding any warranty) and repeat this step. If the device does not show up on Disk Management on two or more devices, striped of it's enclosure, again refer back and I will recommend a data recovery facility near you.

If it shows up at either stage, the problem is most likely logical in nature, check the size of the drive and ensure it roughly matches the stated size(won't be exact). If it does but the partitions show up as RAW or UNALLOCATED, advise and I can recommend a software solution for recovering your files, if it does not show up or shows up in a place like Device Manager but either does not show up or shows up as 0GB and or Uninitialized but refuses to initialize, again hardware failure we can connect you with a pro.

If you are looking at a software solution, ensure the computer you are connected to has sufficient space to recover all of you files or purchase and connect a new drive of appropriate size before proceeding. We can recommend software for this purpose or if you'd prefer a company who can dial in remotely and assist you with the recovery process.

Of note if you got to the step where the drive is removed from the case and it not only showed up but also has access to your files, back them up to a second device then purchase a USB/eSATA enclosure to put the drive into as the failure was in the enclosure and not the drive.

If none of these steps work or you get very different results, report back, be specific and include all the details you can think of and we will help you assess your next diagnostic step.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Hi, my pc is a ss51G. It was running fine, with new 20gb hdd. The new hdd was lying besides the pc. When I put all the stuff back in cabinet it was dead. I checked all cables, ram and stuff. Still dead....

Connect hard drive to know working computer and see if it is recognized in the bios. If not then the hard drive logic board is fubar. If working, perform diagnostics on it. If you replace the cable that might do it. Bad connection?

Transfering photos to my Iomega Prestige 500GB Portable Hard Driv

Does the Iomega show up under 'my computer'?
It should be another drive (D, E, F whatever) and as such you put stuff on to it the same way you would put stuff on to your C drive.

Hi, my passport worked fine a couple of days ago whilst i was transfering data to vista. Today when trying to access it, it doesnt show up, it shows local disk but not as WD, and you cant see any...

First thing to try is other usb devices as well as trying the drive in a different port. Preferably one away from the original to make it use a differeant hardware controller inside your computer. Also try unpluggin all usbs and rebooting a couple of times.

And try your drive in another computer to make sure it is working. if it isn't it may just be the enclosure electronics are the problem. If you have important stuff on it then you can try taking the drive out of that and putting it into a universal usb drive enclosure to get it up and running again.

Dvd740 not reading DVD+R disk

It sounds like the drive has failed but before you rip it out and trash it you should check that it is listed in your hardware via control panel , system. If it shows up as fine then try burn somthin simple like a regular CD not dvd. if that works the problem may be with your burning software.

if its not listed in hardware or has an exclamation mark by it the its time to open the computer case and check the connections to the drive. remove each connection one at a time and re-connect before moving onto the next one. switch the computer back on and see if it finds new hardware or shows up fine in your hardware list. If not then it is probably pooched.

Can not see my Harddrive

if it says its in the safley remove, but its not showing up, it might have the same drive letter as one of your other hard drives, for XP: 1.go to control panel (start -> control panel) 2.click on "switch to classic view" (top left) 3.click on "administrative tools" it should open up and show more icons 4.click on "computer management" it should open the computer manager 5.on the left side, with the drop down menu's and stuff, open storage, then clikc "Disk Management" 6. in the window left of what you just clicked, find your drive, you should not the capacity and basic stuff about your drive, you should be able to find it 7. right click on your drive and click "Change Drive Letter and Paths" 8.click "Change" 9. in the drop-down menu choose a new drive letter, that isn't being used 10. click Ok and it should work. if it doesn't see if your drive needs to be plugged into a wall to get extra power. or somthing

File transfer to computer sony ericsson w580I

There is a program called BIT PIM it may help. It's free. It isn't the easiest program in the world to use, but it is the only one I've ever used with any success for this application.
