What is the operating System ? (98, 2000, XP ) Are both harddisk Installed? If yes , which of the two has operating system? Is the 80 GB new, pre formatted, or un formatted?

Hello Gravi,

Please try one of the following options.

Try different USB ports.
If that didnt work, then try updating/reinstalling your USBdrivers.
Try after these options a reboot first.

Also take a look at this page where some driver problem for your specific harddrive are explained!

I hope this helps you out!

Local disk error WD My Passport 250GB

Do you connect & disconnect the drive according to WD's recommendations here? Try another cable. (If yours was wearing out, that might explain why it only connected some times.) Try another usb port. Check the power supply (another receptacle) Unplug other usb devices from the system.
See this article. Good luck!

External hard drive not recognized

I have a WD3200 usb Hard drive. I am looking to partition it. The problem i encountered is when I go to the disk management, the drive shows up as disk one but below it , it says no media. its like the computer knows that there is an external storage device attatched but cannot access it. Also if I try to get into the disk from my computer, it says "insert disk"

Any suggestions?

Simple Tech collaspe

You may be able to fix it by replacing the logic board.

If you have an identical hard drive you may use the logic board from that one.

#1508 Bad directory buffer signature

Hi, if this is a fairly new installed XP you're probably better off: repartitioning, reformat and reinstall WinXP but this will delete all contents of the hard drive. If however there are a good number of critical/important files you would want to save/copy, there are two (2) ways of going about saving/copying those files but both involve access to a working computer. (1) remove your Travelstar 5K100 from the laptop and using a 44 to 40 pin adaptor, connect it to the working pc which should recognize it as another hd and therefore you can copy your files to that pc. There are many sites that explains how to do this. You can try Google search or (2) another method is to boot and run your OS from your cd. While this does not involve physically removing your laptop's hard disk, it might be a bit challenging preparing the bootable CD with an OS. The procedure is better explained at This will run your laptop although a bit slow however, you can access the hd and save it to a thumbdrive or if you have a lan to another computer. Please let me know if this works ok with you. Good luck and regards.
