I added a 512mb stick to my ibm t30 think pad and one port is bad

I took out both sticks and inserted both into port one and the computer reads both of them. If port 2 is bad, can I add a 1024 stick to the port that is working??

You can plug a USB hub into the working USB port on the computer. The USB hub can have several ports so you can plug in several USB devices.
I suggest you get a powered USB hub because if all the devices that you plug into this hub exceeds 500mA then your computer's USB port will stop working because it could not supply enough current.
You will not need to plug in the power adapter into the hub if the device/s do not overload the computer's USB port.

Try Pressing and holding different parts of the screen see if image sticks if not this means your LCD screen is bad and you should replace it.

My IBM thinkpad t30 beeps 8 times at me when i go to turn it on and will not start up what is that

Video memory error. The BIOS cannot write to the frame buffer memory on the video card. Since the frame buffer memory is on the video board's memory chips then you will have to replace the entire board.

Adding memory, new total not recognized: IBM Thinkpad R51e-1844

Ram should always be paired. Same type, speed and size in each slot. You may have 1 SIMM/DIMM/DDR that has 2 sides of chips and the other with 1 which will do exactly what you state. RAM reads across the chips simultaneously. So if you have a different one in each slot it can go bonkers and do goofy stuff on you.

I added memory to my Dell Precision 4700. It beeps about 5 times and then does nothing. The memory type is correct, took all the ESD precautions, everything is pushed all the way in place and it still is...

Maybe: 1. One or all of the chips are bad - it happens try one at a time to find the culprit. 2. Make sure you started in the first slot 3. You have the wrong type of memory

I just tried to install 1 gig of ram on my IBM T30 Laptop, easy right, well now I get nothing on my screen, so what went wrong if it was so easy. Please help. Thx BJ I tried to increase ram to 1024mb on...

It may require either or both of these, since I can't see the laptop, I'll give you both, first and easiest, is go into the bios, and look in the system settings, see if the memory/ram is set to auto it may be set to a specific amount or speed, f 10 your way out and save the settings, hopefully that will fix the problem, if not then unplug and remove the battary, open the base and remove the little cmos battery looks like a coin, wait 5 min and replace, that is where your settings are saved when the machine is unplugged. Restart after putting everything together, then you may have to go and enable your custom settings, but the memory should show the new stick you installed, If not it's possible you have a bad stick, it won't be the first time, good luck

Iupgraded my memory and computer will not recognize slot 2

Don't worry about what Windows says...check your BIOS. Also the other stick must match in type ddr in speed exactly for it to work. Last choice take it out and reseat it. If it doesn't work or if the ram is damaged you will hear 4 very long beeps when you start up.
