Ipod nano plugged in but only showing up as USB storage device

Got a nano 4th gen 8gb for Xmas. Never had one before. Plugged it into my laptop expecting to see the welcome screen as advertised. The ipod's only being recognised as if it were a memory stick (???) Ant advice welcomed. Do I really have to use i-tunes as I often use different computers?

Yes you have to Itunes srry :(. But there is a way that you can plug the ipod into different computers just put the ipod in manual mode and that should work.

How can I use JVC AVX810 with Iphone? Currently IPOD works fine with the USB cable but IPHONE is not recognised. Maybe there is an adaptor that can solve it?

JVC KS-PD100 iPod Interface Adapter (257KSPD100, sold separately). This optional iPod Interface Adapter supports audio playback for the following iPod models - iPod click-wheel (3rd gen), iPod photo (4th gen), iPod mini (1st/2nd gen), iPod nano (1st/2nd/3rd/4th gen), iPod video (5th gen), and iPod classic (80/120/160GB). The KS-PD100 is not compatible with the iPod touch (1st/2nd/3rd gen), iPod nano (5th gen), or iPhone (2G/3G/3GS). This iPod interface will also not charge the iPod nano (4th generation). *Apple firmware updates may change functionality results.

Try doing this: Toggle the hold switch and put it back in the off position. Then press and hold the center button and the menu button simultaneously for ten seconds and the apple symbol should come up on the screen. Then it should work like normal. Hope this helps!

I can't figure out how to install my 16GB Ipod 4th Generation mp4

About your recent purchase of
16GB 4th Gen Slim MP3 MP4 Media Player with FM radio

You have been sold a fake sized player. it is hacked to show 16GB actual size may be around 1GB to 8GB. test your player with "H2TESTW 1.4" you will find it the first hit on www.google.com let other people know and open a dispute on paypal, you have been sold a fake item. Do not return the item for refund as sellers address is very likely wrong, useless to wait for a replacement player because they all are hacked. Get a partial refund. I paid 35usd, got 20usd refunded just now.

About your problem.
The player doesn't require anything works with vista and xp /etc just by plugging it into your computer and then turn it on, it will show up on your my computer as a removeable disk.

Compatability with 4th gen nano

I have had exactly the same problem having bought a JBL Radial Micro for my partner for Xmas for use with the Ipod Nano, i contacted JBL via their website and was advised to contact Harmen on 01707278100. I was advised that the new ipod nano (chromatic) would not charge on the JBL radial micro. They stated that this was due to Apple changing the charging pin in the new nano. I have since bought a JBL Stage III. I contacted Harmen before buying this and was advised that the Stage II would not work. Hope that this is of use.

IPod Nano not recognized when plugged to USB

Make sure your not pluged into a USB hub. It will work if its plugged directly into a USB port on your computer.

Apple Ipod Nano 1st Gen

first of all
what operating system are you useing?
is this the first time its been pluged in?
I know that you need your service packs 1 and 2
you need to go to your device manager and uninstall it but dont unplug or reboot at this point. go to add hardware and install it there you might have to tell it it's a mass storage device.
it might be formated wrong.

Ipod nano 3rd gen

It's in disk mode and the computer thinks that it is only a storage device. You need to reset it to get it back to normal.

You can reset your ipod by holding down the menu and select (round button in the center) buttons down for at least 10 seconds. You'll see an apple logo flash, that's when you stop pressing the buttons. It will shut off, then back on.
