PS3 powers up reads disks, or seems to, but when I look for it on my HDMI for the TV it won't show up anymore. I tried the component cables as well and they don't give a picture either. Am I missing something? Can it be reset? I mostly use this for my Bluray movies and not for games.
To reset the playstation, hold down the power button until it beeps twice and turn it off from the back. at that point, wait three to five seconds and then turn it back on from the back and then the front.
then you can can automatically or manually change the audio/ video settings.
i recommend that you do manual with the problems you seem to have. if you are using hdmi, start from the lowest setting on the visual and test each one to see what your resolution your tv has.

Your resolution on your ps3 may be too high for the tv to display. Hook up your PS3 to you TV with the HDMI cable. Now, when you turn on
your PS3, hold the power button on the PS3 for 5 seconds. It will reset
the PS3 video options and recognize the HDMI connection. It will then
search for the correct resolution settings on the TV. Press (X) to
confirm. And that's it. You should be set. If not, then the TV is acting
1. if u are using hdmi port and it is connected to hdmi in your tv
setting might have been changed
1. take out ur nomal av output wire which is given by sony , plug it on to a normal tv (rgb) now u can see the display (if not try mannual swithch off the ps3 and on for 3 to 4 times) u will get the display 2. now go to settings (video settings) there is a option called video output u can change it to AUTOMATIC
As you already checked PS3 and HDMI cable, select HDMI input in TV and connect PS3 via HDMI cable. TV should show PS3 picture. And if still no joy then HDMI input port in TV is bad and need to replace input board/ main board.
Well you can just use the hdmi cable if you're going both audio and video in to your tv. With your hdmi cable you get the best quality for both.
But in anycase, it seems that your PS3 is set up to output video via HDMI cable. To reset our video output settings, simply power down your PS3 (turned off) and hold down the power button until you hear the second beep. (around 5-10 secs) Power back up and hopefully you'll have video via your av cable. Hope this helps.
Well, I won't take the credit of others. Many people have the same problem as you do.
In the search box on the top of this page, put in " PS3 HDMI ". The one that has the 10 solutions so far has the best answers for you.
Had same problem with Panasonic PT60LC14 tv when connecting by HDMI cord to my PS3 and a blue ray disc was playing. First, read your tv manual to see what video inputs it supports . Then read the PS3 online manual (section on "video output settings").
For me I found out that my tv only supported 1080i (along with 480i/p, 780p) and the ps3 manual says blue ray outputs 1080p, so my blue ray discs will not play on my tv according to the PS3 manual. PS3 manual says to restart the ps3 (power off, then power on and HOLD for 5 seconds) - then the standard video output settings should be reset. Hopefully the ps3 menu will pop up at least. I haven't tried this yet but if it doesn't work, i'll may try to reset PS3 video out settings manually first using another tv that works with it ..
