Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Thank you for the info. washer that doesn't work

Last night after work my wife had told me that the machine ( Kenmore 4564191 ) will not move at all. it will spin through the first stage and then will not move to the next stage. ( rinse ) I tried to manually put it on the drain stage and it will not drain still. But what is different is that i thought that the machine had gone through all the stages of cleaning BUT IT doesn't. That is why i thought it was the timer. I will try the lid thing and get back to you. It was very nice of you to take the time to respond. BOth my wife and i thank you.

It appears your timer has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

Last night my wife was using the washer and when the washer went into the spin cycle it sounded like the washer was chugging. The drum was turning but not at full capability. the washer is a Kenmore...

I had a Kenmore washer that had a somewhat similar problem. It had a rubber sprocket that had started to deteriorate that caused my drum to stop spinning. I'm not sure if your is the same but you might try pulling the back panel and see how the drum is driven. I am guessing the sprocket or belt has started to wear out.

Check the fit of the agitator to the drum. The closer to the botttom of the drum the better. If the agitator can be moved up to create a gap, find out why.

The rinse cycle does not work, but everything else does

I don't know if the problem is solved but last night we ran the washer without any clothes in it and everything seemed to work fine. My wife was able to run a load of laundry and it seemed to work. I hope it was just too much clothes the first time it stopped or the washer was just acting up. Either way, I had nothing to do with the fix. Sorry I couldn't be any more help. Thank you for the link to assistance plan, it might come in handy in the future.

Thanks again,

Kenmore washer. 4564191

ok it will not drain or spin! thats going to be the lid switch.if you look where the lid meets the washer body there is a small hole.under that hole is the switch i am speaking of.it should be tight up against that hole from underneath, also on the lid the actuator, the pice that goes into the hole should not be broken.to repair is another story.the eazy for now way might be stick somthing in the hole so the switch will make contact.but that works only if switch not to badley broken.other wise would need new switch and have to take off washer shell[cabinet]to install new switch.i know times are tight, for me too.i wish i could fix for you.but you know,distance..........anyway if you had some one i could instruct i would be happy to .God bless ,tom

Will not move to the next cycle.

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.
