Question about Acomdata PHOTON 2.5 (PHD080U2E54) Hard Drive
On my new HP desktop with Vista it is not recognized at all.
On my new Toshiba laptop with Vista it keeps giving I/O errors regularly. Du eto this I am not able to transfer files on this device.
Do I need to find Vista drivers for this device? If so from where and how to install it. Have not been successful in finding one.

SOURCE: Acomdata external hard drive
No ned to check in that.
The external hard drive can be fomatted by :
Open the my computer, in the my computer or explorer window you should see the drive letter for the external drive.
Right click on the drive you will get the popup menu.
In that select the format option.
But always use NTFS file formatting system.NTFS provides several advantages over FAT32, including support for larger ile sizes.
Use the full format option.
Wait for sometime, until the format is completed.
Then you are good to go.

You need to do a firmware flash. It worked for me. Here's the link to the fix.

my final solution was to remove the drive from the housing and install it as a slave in the main case. The computer is operating Windows XP and instantly recognised the drive. Works fine, all of my data is there. No problem now. This approach will not help laptop users but they might try removing the drive from the ACOMDATA housing and installing it in another housing.

I would say take the drive out and if you have SATA connectors on your motherboard, connect it directly to you computer and see if the computer will recognize it. If it does, your enclosure is bad.

I had a similar issue with windows 2008 and windows 7. the drive lost all its info and had to be reinitialized under both of those O.S.'s..
You can try that as long as it doesn't have any data you need.. Once you do that the drive will work and you can start using it. The file system under vista and above is slightly different than xp.
