I had the same problem and found that disconnecting the power lead and repositioning the ribbon cable from the on switch did the job after about 5 attempts

Try removing / swapping / reseating the memory.

Try booting with one stick only, if the top slot doesn't work, try booting the bottom slot. Try both sticks.

ok, You have multiple problems here and some are not related to others. The lan issue is your LAN card. In most cases uninstalling the device from device manager and reinstalling after you have downloaded the updated drivers to use will resolve this unless the card itself is bad. The Windows issue is resolved by going to the Windows Website and downloading and installing Service pack 3. After installing Service pack 3 make sure you have downloaded the updates for MSWord and that should resolve that problem. Be advised these downloads are going to be large and take some time. The fan issue isn't really an issue. The fan is running to cool the CPU and that is a programming issue in the BIOS most likely. Check your BIOS settings and see if you have an over ride set for the fan operation. The battery can be any of several problems. I suspect the battery has a dead cell in it causing your problem however, in order to make sure you need to go through a Battery conditioning series. Go into your Power Settings and make sure you have them all set to on and to max Performance not Max Life. Reset the Low Battery threshold to never turn off and Hibernation is turned off. Leave the machine turned on without the AC power adapter connected until it dies. This takes the battery all the way down. Then connect the AC cable to charge the battery and leave the computer turned off for at least 4 hours. At that point you should be able to turn the computer on and go to the Toshiba tools and there should be a battery conditioning program there. Activate the program and let it run it's course. You may have to do this several times to get the best performance. The key is knowing when to stop. If you do not notice a significant increase in battery life after doing this process twice then you need to replace the battery and cut your losses with it. A significant increase in performance of the battery would be 10 min or greater increase in battery life after each cycle. This process should be followed every 30 days to prevent the battery from developing what they call memory which will destroy the battery.

unplug plug the power cord and remove the battery and hold the power button for 45 seconds,Then reinstall the battery and and try to start the computer,

if it fails to start
unplug plug the power cord and remove the battery and hold the power button for 45 seconds and
remove the memory and any usb devices that may be plugged in,then start it,

If it starts

Allow it to load completely and then shut it down and install one memory stick and restart, if all is well after if loads completely, shut down again and install the other memory stick and restart, if all is well again wait until it loads completely and then plug in and allow to load each of the usb devices you may have
