Same here. Pointer moves around fine, but button does not respond very well. Repeatedly replaced battery and hit reset, but to no avail. It sometimes helps to push harder and or longer to get a click.

Microsoft told me to do a few troubleshooting things -- move usb cable to a new port, run the mouseinfo program that tells you what button is being pushed, etc. When these didn't work, they said they'd send me a Wireless Laser Mouse 6000, version 2. I prefer the 5000 because it's ambidextrous, but a working 6000 is better than a broken 5000, and they don't make the 5000 any more. You should contact them -- the mouse has a 5-year waranty and they started making them less than 5 years ago.

Still, if anybody has figured out a way to open the mouse and clean and possibly fix a broken switch -- which is what must be the problem -- I'd appreciate hearing about it.

SOURCE: the wireless mouse works but the laser 5000

press connect on the wireless device...let go and then within 5 seconds press the button on the bottom of the keyboard. Repeat the same steps for the mouse whther its working or not. The problem usually is that the keyboard and mouse are on the same "Wireless Channel" and only resyncing them puts them on a seperate channel, hope this helps.

Pairing code for Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000

Not really a code, just first press button on top of your receiver and then the button on the bottom of the mouse. The receiver LED should stay green when they are connected. If this does not happen check that you are using IntelliPoint Mouse Software. See more:

How do i get rid of magnifier?

If you installed the software that came with your mouse, there will be a shortcut on your desktop to the microsoft wireless laser mouse configuration. Double click on this shortcut. In the window that opens, at the very bottom, there are options for both the left and right side buttons. In the drop down window, select "Disable" for both. Click on "Apply" Click on "Okay" or "Close"
