Question about Corel Paint Shop Pro 9

Paint Shop Pro 9 Printer Selection (no options available)

I have multiple printer under Windows Vista that I can choose from other applications. When I attempt to print from Paint Shop Pro 9, only one printer (the default printer) appears and no options/alternatives are available.

I believe I installed the software when only one printer was defined. Is this just a matter of re-installing the software, or is there something that can be done within PSP without re-installing it.

Strange.

This appears to be a known compatibility bug between PSP9 and Vista.

There is a workaround which will be suitable for those who use Print Layout in PSP instead of just Print.
With your image open in PSP, goto >File >Print Layout.
Now in the Print Layout screen, goto >File >Print Setup (or just click the Printer / Page Setup Icon).
The Print Setup window will now appear with just your default printer displayed. There should be a Print Setup button next to the Properties button, but it never appears in Vista. You can, however, still access it.
Just press 'Alt-P' and the small print setup dialog box appears, allowing you to choose a different printer!!! Paint Shop Pro 9 Printer Selection (no options ava - happy.gif

The only solution that appears to work in Windows 7 (and presumably Vista) is before running PSP9 change the default printer to the printer you want to print on. Load PSP9 and the printer shown will be your new default printer. A bit of a pain but it works for me.

Not helpful - I see the two buttons from a scan of a book, but this dialog box on my computer and presumably everyone else that has this problem is missing the "printers" button. I will keep looking for the solution...

Well, sadly, there doesn't seem to be a fix for this. It is a Vista compatibility issue that Corel seems uninterested in fixing. And, for my money, even though I have been a loyal user for like 8 years, it may be time to move to photoshop. Here is a link to further discussion:

Try this:
open the file you want to print.
click on file at the top left hand side, then choose print from the menu.
a dialog box will open up. there will be 2 buttons on the top right , choose the one that says printer and click on it.
another dialog box will open up. If you click on the tiny arrow a drop down menu should open listing all of the printers which are installed on your computer.
If not check to see that the printer you want to use is still installed on your computer.
(start menu, control panel, open the printers and fax folder which will show all the printers currently installed on your computer. If the one you'd like to use is not installed use the software which came with your printer to do so.

" there will be 2 buttons on the top right , choose the one that says printer and click on it"

I have this issue too - the "printer" button just isn't there. Nothing. I only have one button that says "properties" but nothing else. I have 3 printers installed on this computer and they all work fine in other applications. The program worked perfectly before I upgraded to Windows 7

Dont know hw tp get started with lexmark printer

First, I'm assuming you are using some flavor of windows, but if not this may not be completely accurate. I'm also going to use windows XP in any directions I give, but if you are using Vista, it will be pretty close.

There are a few ways to do scanning. If you have a favorite graphics application like photoshop or paint shop pro, you can scan directly into these apps using the "Acquire" option. This is usually done by going to File->Acquire in the application, and then selecting your scanner.

The printer also probably came with a software suite for scanning as well. If you go to Start->All Programs->Lexmark 5400 Series, you should see something along the lines of All in One Center (may be slightly differently named, but it's in this folder). Once you find this application, it should be pretty easy to scan.

As a third option, if you don't have a graphics application, I like to use Paint.net, which is a free piece of software you can find at

http://www.getpaint.net/

Once you download, install it, and get it started, to scan a picture go to :

File->Acquire, and select "From Scanner or Camera"

It should present you with a selection dialog where you should see your lexmark AIO. Select it and it will bring up the scan dialog, where you can select Color Picture, Black and White, etc.

It is a good idea to hit the preview button first and let it find your picture. Then hit the Scan button and it will scan!

Hope this is helpful

In my Paint Shop Pro 7 program, my photos show in color. However, when I go to print preview, they are shown in grayscale. If I print them on either of my two printers, they come out in grayscale. I do...

its possible that in your printing preferences you have black and white selected. you can also try reinstalling the drivers for your printers, first uninstall them and then install the drivers again preferably newest drivers from the makers website.

    Not install for windows vista

In any Windows environment, the printer itself becomes a dummy terminal and all changes to the printer will be over-ridden by the application or the operating system.

Windows Vista should automatically detect and install devices attached to the computer. Simply connect the printer to your computer and power it on.

If the driver does not automatically install, you can follow the steps below to install a resident driver which is part of Windows Vista. The resident driver installation should only be used if the printer is not detected and installed.

    1. Click on START, CONTROL PANEL and PRINTERS.
    2. Click the ADD PRINTER button. If you do not see ADD PRINTER, right-click in the PRINTERS window and select ADD PRINTER from the menu.
    3. The ADD PRINTER wizard window will appear select Add a Local Printer.
    4. Select the port the printer is connected to from the drop down window beside Use an Existing Port, click NEXT.
    5. In the next window select EPSON under Manufacturers and your printer model under Printers.
    6. In the Type a Printer Name window, Set as Default is automatically selected. If you, have another printer that will be the default simply remove the check and click NEXT to install the driver.
    7. Ensure the printer is directly connected to the computer and that the printer is ready to print. Click PRINT TEST PAGE to test the printer.
    8. Once the test page has printed, click FINISH to exit the wizard.

*NOTE: Depending on your system the computer may ask for your Windows disk, if so insert your Windows CD into your CD-ROM drive and click OK.

To make adjustments to the output quality and speed in Windows Vista, please do the following:

    1. Click on START, CONTROL PANEL, and PRINTERS.
    2. Right click on the printer icon, and choose PRINTER PREFERENCES.
    3. Click on the ADVANCED button in the bottom right corner.
    4. Click on the GRAPHICS option and click the down arrow.
    5. Choose the lowest number to drop your resolution and pick up your speed.
    6. Click on PRINT FEATURES and choose the option HIGH SPEED ON.
    7. Click OK to apply the changes.
    8. Once again right click on the icon for your printer, and choose the PROPERTIES tab.
    9. Click on the ADVANCED tab and click on the button called PRINT DIRECTLY TO THE PRINTER.
    10. Click APPLY (if applicable) and/or click OK to apply the changes.

The driver you are using is a graphics driver and may not have the adequate speed for your purposes. In Windows VISTA there are more basic drivers which respond better to custom page sizes and speed adjustments. Windows also has a driver called GENERIC TEXT ONLY which is made as a universal driver for all printers just for speed. To add in either of these drivers please do the following:

    1. Click on START, CONTROL PANEL and PRINTERS.
    2. In the left hand column choose the option ADD PRINTER. The ADD PRINTER WIZARD comes up, click on NEXT.
    3. Select Add a Local Printer.
    4. Click on NEXT.
    5. Select the port the printer is connected to from the drop down window beside Use an Existing Port, click NEXT.
    6. In the next window select EPSON under Manufacturer. Please use the guide below to select an appropriate Emulation driver. If you wanted to install the Windows universal driver, choose GENERIC under Manufacturer and choose TEXT ONLY, click NEXT.

EPSON LQ SERIES (136): Used for LQ wide carriage printers
EPSON LQ SERIES (80): Used for LQ narrow carriage printers

EPSON LX SERIES (136): Used for LX wide carriage printers
EPSON LX SERIES (80): Used for LX narrow carriage printers

EPSON FX SERIES (136): Used for FX wide carriage printers
EPSON FX SERIES (80): Used for FX narrow carriage printers

    7. In the Type a Printer Name window, Set as Default is automatically selected. If you, have another printer that will be the default simply remove the check and click NEXT to install the driver.
    8. Ensure the printer is directly connected to the computer and that the printer is ready to print. Click PRINT TEST PAGE to test the printer.
    9. Once the test page has printed, click FINISH to exit the wizard.

*NOTE: Depending on your system the computer may ask for your Windows disk, if so insert your Windows CD into your CD-ROM drive and click OK.
