Printing blank pages

Hi Wendy,

This is known issue with Canon printers. Try the steps below.

    • 1

Remove all of the paper from the paper tray and slide the paper guides all the way to the side. Examine the paper for any crumpled or torn pieces, then reload the tray. Make sure the guides fit snugly against the sides of the paper. If the guides are too loose, the paper can feed into the iP1600 skewed and cause a paper jam. If the guides are too tight it can cause the printer to grab more than one piece of paper.

    • 2

Open the front of the printer and wait for the print cartridges to move to the center. Do not move the cartridges by hand--this could damage the printer and void your warranty.

      • 3

Pull the cartridges slightly toward you and lift them free of the printer. Set the cartridges aside.

      • 4

Wipe the interior of the printer with a soft cloth to remove any ink residue and paper dust. The Pixma iP1600 has a tendency to accumulate a lot of paper dust, especially during periods of heavy use. Cleaning the printer periodically is the best way to avoid problems.

      • 5

Dip a cotton swab in warm water and carefully clean the bottom of each print cartridge. The print cartridges in the iP1600 printer also tend to accumulate paper dust. In addition the print nozzles can become clogged with ink residue, resulting in poor print quality and shortening the life of the cartridges. Continue wiping the cartridges until all ink residue and paper dust have been removed.

What is the E 5 error

This is a cartridge recognition error. this can happen after being refilled many times or the contacts on the front of the cartridge have become dirty. Try removing the cartridges, Turn the printer off by removing the power cable, clean the contacts on the front of the cartridges with alcohol wipes or boiling water, be sure to dry before replacing in the printer. Switch on the power and replace the cartridges.
If this does not work unfortunately replacement cartridges are required.
I hope this helps, if so please rate this answer below. Regards GM

Error 5100 appears on lcd when turning it on. How do I fix?

Try removing and reseating the ink cartridges. If that does not work try replacing the cartridges with genuine Canon ink cartridges. This should alleviate your issue as error 5100 is due to cartridge failure of some sort.
