We've tried even buying a wireless USB network adapter and it still won't stay connect, could someone please help me!!
That might take an uninstall and reinstall of either the ethernet drivers, or the operating system. I haven't heard that, but I have had machines that aren't as reliable in the wireless as they could be. it's possible that something in the workings of it has gone haywire, but it sounds like an OS issue.
Back up everything you want to keep and reinstall the OS if possible.

unfortuantely this is usually the first sign that your graphics card is corrupt. it's a generic fault with V6000's. if you have the word compaq written on the back and not the Q symbol they use now then the chances are you need a new motherboard, especially if it's more than 2 years old. the reason you can't connect to the internet is that the graphics card also controls the wireless card and ethernet card so neither of them will work. sorry
Same issue with one I'm looking at here. A number of people have reported that using the new nvidia display drivers results in the laptop running much cooler. The download link is below, also make sure to uninstall all the other applications that come with the driver package and leave only the following.
Best of luck,
nVidia Drivers nVidia Display Control Panel
It is proberly not the battery - it is a problem with the drivers that starts up the cooling fan. - symtoms: stops ramdomly - malfunktion of some funktions - and indeed gets hot
go to compaq home page for driver opdate
