Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

In device manager under other device a question mark appears and under that multimedia audio controller is shown with exclamatory mark. When I double click the exclamatory mark, the window shows a message that the drivers for this device are not installed. Again I could not find the driver to install. Kindly suggest me.

Hi, you are not hearing sounds from your computer right? In your Device Manager, it is indicated with yellow(!) because you have to install the audio driver. Post the Manufacturer and model name of your motherboard or sound card so I can give you the driver or link.

If its a driver issue then ofcourse you can do it yourself. Open device manager. Start-> Run type in devmgmt.msc and under sound video and game controllers see if any of the devices have a yellow exclamatory mark next to them. Also let me know whats your OS(XP, Vista, Windows 7?) so that I can get you the driver.

Tip

How to setup your Sound.

Install the drivers for the sound device. If the sound hardware came with an installation disc, insert the CD into the drive and follow the prompts. If the sound device does not have a disc, contact the manufacturer or download the drivers from the manufacturer's website. To check the system for sound devices, go to "Start," "Control Panel" and "Sound and Audio Devices." The primary sound device will be shown in the top of this window. Step 2 Check the "Audio Devices" properties window for muted volume or the volume bar set to minimum. Either of these will cause the sound to not work. Step 3 Check "Device Manager" for improper settings or problems with the device. Go to "Start," "Control Panel" and "System," then select the "Hardware" tab, then press the "Device Manager" button. A list of hardware will be displayed. Audio devices are under "Sound Video and Game Controllers." The device will be titled the same as it appeared in the "Sound and Audio Devices" window in the "Control Panel." By double clicking on the device, it will display the properties. There is a selection at the bottom of the first tab that will display whether the device is "Enabled" or "Disabled." Any conflicts will also be given in the form of small exclamation marks. Step 4 Check the volume knob on the physical speakers.

Control Panel says I have no audio device. Speakers are plugged in and have power.

No audio device implies that you do not have a driver installed for your soundcard/on-board sound. To verify this click start->Run and type in devmgmt.msc and hit enter. When the device manager opens click the + sign next to sound video and game controllers and see if there are yellow exclamatory marks next to any of the devices . Post back with what you found so that I can verify if its indeed a driver problem and then get you the driver.

No sound from PC, problem with multimedia audio controller

The yellow mark indicated the multimedia audio controller driver was not installed, therefore the audio won't work/no sounds.
You need to identify the make and model of the audio card and if you haven't the audio installation CD then you can download the driver from the manufacturer's WEB site.
Since the repairer fixed your computer, he should have installed the audio driver. I suggest you get the repairer to install the audio driver as it should have been part of the repair service.
Also if you see any other yellow marks against any devices in the DEVICE MANAGER then these will also need the drivers installed.

I have afrontech jil7000sound card it couldnot be installed from the cd how to download from the site

Seems like there is no auto installation option in the cd.
If you have not tried the device manager installation way, try the following.

open control panel->system->hardware->device manager

then select the audio card name from the device list which is not installed or has an exclamatory icon next to the device not installed. double click it and a new window will open from that select
update driver-> no i don't want to go online-> i'll install driver my self->search in removable media(cdrom) then the driver will install automatically.
this way you can install.

Multimedia audio controller

This indicates that the sound drivers are missing from your computer. You will have to identify the sound card that is installed on your computer before proceeding with downloading the correct driver. To identify the sound card, follow the steps below (Assuming that you are using Windows XP)

  1. Open Device Manager (Right-click My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager)
  2. The hardware whose drivers are missing will appear as Unknown device, so it’s easier to locate the device.
  3. Right click on the unknown device and click on Properties.
  4. Under the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id from the drop down box.
  5. You should see a code similar to this
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27DC&SUBSYS_30868086&REV_01\4&1E46F438&0&40F0
  6. The portion of the code highlighted in RED is the Vendor ID and the portion highlighted in GREEN is the Device ID. In this example:
    Vendor ID = 8086
    Device ID = 27DC
  7. Once you have obtained both the IDs, proceed to www.pcidatabase.com . There you can either search for the vendor from the vendor ID or directly get information about the device along with the vendor name by searching with the device ID.
