Broken horizontal stripes except for 6" band

My picture was fine. When I looked again at the screen, most of the screen had narrow, broken, horizontal stripes from top to bottom, except for a 6" wide horizontal band about 6" from the bottom which showed a clear picture.

I unplugged and reconnected the HDMI cable to both the DVD player and the TV. The HDMI connector is almost new and has been working perfectly. The problem persists. Also, I considered the problem may be my DVD player, so I swapped DVD players and exactly the same problem occured.

Problem persists whether I use HDMI input or other imputs. What is "shorttracking" on the "internal board" and how specifically do I get it fixed? Does the internal board have to be replaced? Or recalibrated? Or cleaned? Don't throw jargon at me. Give me clear explanations.

Something inside what has frayed? The connector? The TV set?

Its just because of some faulty input cables or shorttracking on internal board.

The most common reason is a faulty lower buffer board. Also faults to Sustain boards and cables can cause the same problem on a plasma.

There are several faults that can cause horizontal stripes on a plasma.

To start , check if the problem is only on a determined input, in that case try a replacement cable or try a different input socket on tv.

If, as I understood you get horizontal lines on all conditions, then it is an internal fault.

The first step is unplugging the power cord for ten minutes, to reset the TV.

Then ensure that it is not a setting problem, this can be an overscan error, in that case, try adjusting TV settings using the TV menu, change size , res, and if present change screen alignment.

This wont probably fix the problem, in that case the TV must be taken apart to test the following parts.

    General inspection to PSU.
This is unlikely to be the problem, but it is worth having a look (testing), as a defective power board can cause side effects on other parts.

    Buffer lower.
This causes vertical static line, I wrongly addressed it on my first answer.

    Internal cables.
They must be tested , there are ribbon cables that connect to the plasma screen and had buit in chip technology, they may fail quite easily.

    Sustain board,
If lines are accompained by a darker screen then it is the Sustain board.

    Video Chipset.
This can be the cause for an overcan problem, it may be difficult to repair and often you need to replace the whole board.

    Do the following:

Try first checking cable, unplugging from power , and plugging a different input (DVD, Receiver) To TV.
Also try accessing screen settings from TV menu.

If this does not work, then a component inside had blown, in this case call the service number on the owner manual, and either validate your warranty or ask for a warranty extension , if available.
This kind of set may be expensive to repair, when warranty is expired, the best thing to do is getting an extension.

Hi
There is 60% of chance you will need a new screen. The problem you may have is dead driver (part of a screen) or poor connection between plasma glass and rubber wire connector. There is some solution for it but not for long time. PDP panel and address driver on it not separated. If one of 26-40 drivers is going out, you need new screen. It is a real question why manufacturers don't separate expensive PDP panel  and $40 driver on it. It is easier to replace small $40 part than the entire screen. So far they just ignore this issue.

Other problems: A plasma TV is a very hard working device. It is working harder than any TV that has been built before, and as a result it produces a lot of heat. 75% of technical problems in our shop on plasma TV's are caused by overheating problems. If there is no active cooling system, most of them die in the first 3-6 years. Always ask at the store before buying if there is a cooling system inside. No cooling fans inside = no long life. That is a major rule about plasma. Just some advice from real experience: Company names that ignore cooling system - PHILIPS, DAEWOO, some SONY models. A real test in shop - PHILIPS 42 pf7220a/37. After 10 hours of work without cooling system, some of the components on power supply board were out of temperature balance. This may lead to overheating problem and cause other permanent damages. How long will it last? You know.

Screen went black, except for narrow band at top

If your camera is not dead, It is surely dying. Perhaps just a flat cable lost connection inside your camera, But more likely the electronics is on the end of life. My DX7590, started to act strange a few year ago, but I managed to shoot pictures still. I could not look back what I had shot, but I still made lots of pictures, till also shooting was impossible. (I could get the pictures from the memory card with an external card reader on my computer. My next step was again (a better) compact, but since over 2 years now I'm using a DSLR. I have learned a lot about digital photography with my Kanon camera's.

Samsung TSL2793HF - Slight Right Side Pincushion and Horz Line Bottom to Top Until the TV Warms up

Yes, this is rare but I have seen it before--not fixable if it is what I think it is----It is what is called a Dome effect---the shadow mask in the picture tube is actually contracting and or expanding depending on temperature---

Directly behind the phosphor coating (the stripes that you see on the screen) is a metal screen--the holes or perforations in it line up with the stripes on the phosphor screen.

Some masks either have a material or a defect causing the dome effect----Not likely to be anything else---a Pin amp problem will not usually act the way you describe but a shadow mask inside the picture tube will act exactly that way.

When you say 'played back', do you mean viewed on the camera screen, or after downloading to your computer ? If the latter, it could be to do with the software you are using - try FastStone.

This sounds like an impact injury to the screen itself. It is likely that something may have hit the screen or if the set is old, the part inside may be starting to go.

Hope this helps
