One possible cause is the charger that is malfunctioning. Another cause may be the battery itself.

My laptop won't charge even it is plugged in.

Hello, I am the technician that will be assisting you today. My name is Norman-Wynne Damstra.

Welcome to Fixya, Loue Benison.

The solution to your problem lies in one of the following three areas:
1.) Your charger is faulty and is therefore not able to pass power to your laptops battery.

2.) The charging connector on the laptop has come loose from the contacts. Therefore a bad connection.

3.) Your battery is faulty.

I think senerio 2 is the most likely, although you will have to test senerio 3 by removing the battery and pluging in your charger and seeing if the laptop powers on.
If it does power on then that rules out senerio 1 and 2 leaving a faulty battery.

Take care!

My toshiba satellite u300-153 laptop battery doesn't charge even when pluged in.

If the battery is older than 2 years then it is most likely the battery. I would also try to take out the battery and leave it out for a few minutes. Then try it again.

I need to know how to use my new laptop battery correctly.

The first time you charge the battery allow 12 to 16 hours, after that 2 to 4 hours or when battery is charged. If you go on battery frequently drain it right down before charging it, this will give the maxi-um performance and longevity.

Today my cord for my toshiba was behind my pillow and i was lying on it. and I didnt notice, but then it showed that my laptop wasnt charging did my cord just get too hot? will it work later?

The power adapter does not have a temperature sensitive device, therefore it won't stop for overheating if not in consequence of a fault.

Try leaving the power adapter unplugged for about ten minutes.
In the meanwhile also remove laptop battery and put it back.
Connect it back to AC and laptop.
Ensure that connection to laptop and power cord connection to AC adapter box are both well plugged.
Before turning on laptop leave it connected for few minutes.
If laptop still does not turn on and battery does not charge, then the AC adapter is faulty.
A further test can be done using a multimeter to read voltage on AC adapter plug.

A replacement AC adapter is not expensive and can be purchased online. Try entering in Google your Toshiba model followed by the words "power adapter".

Portable batteries are considered a consumable item because as they are used, there is some degradation to the battery. The average life of a portable battery is 300 to 500 discharge/recharge cycles. After that point, the battery's ability to hold a charge slowly decreases, to where it will only power the system for 10 to 15 minutes even when indicating a full charge.

If this is the Original System Battery, then you will need to get a replacement battery to have the system run for a longer period on battery only.

My netbook wont boot, i turn it on and i will hear the fan but nothing else, i was using it everything was going well, the batery ran out and it went into sleep mode, i pluged it in and since then i canot...

Leave it plugged in for about 10 minutes. The battery just needs to charge a little more. Then you can come out of sleep mode.

If it is locked in sleep mode. Just hold the power button down to shut off the computer. Let it charge, you can now reboot, and keep charging after about ten minutes.

When my labtop goes into windows xp it gives me a pop up saying change battey soon but it is pluged in to the wall and ive so whats wrong with it ?

can you go into control panel and look under power options? there you will see power meter on one of the tabs. click on it and see if you see if the battery is charging. if its not, there might be a problem with your power supply, the battery or the motherboard that controls the charge.

one of the ways to check if the power cord has problems is removing the battery and leave the power cord connected and see if it powers up normally. If it does, then remove the power cord and use the battery to do the same but leave the laptop on until the battery is totally drain and shuts down. try to turn it on a few times just to make sure battery is drained. then plug in the power cord to see if it charges your laptop. if all works then what you might need is to update your laptop firmware

Not charging

I found out how to solve this problem...first power down your computer. Then take out the battery, remove the power supply, and then hold down the power button for 30 secs. Put the power supply in only (not the battery). Start your computer after everything is done loading up put the battery back in. Give it a min. and then you should be able to roll your cursor over the battery life indicator in the lower right corner of you computer and is should say charging. I have found that other people have had this problem and it has worked for myself and for them.
