Battery not recognised/not charging

Turn the computer off, unplug it, take the battery out. Then hold the power button down for 10 - 15 seconds. Plug the ac adapter back in, but do not put the battery in yet. Boot the computer, then shut it back down. Put the battery back in then boot it again. It should recognize the system now.

New battery not recognised

Some aftermarket batteries don't work well. The connections aren't correct, the pin-outs are wrong. Your best bet would be return it. Try to get the Manufacturer of your Laptop's genuine replacement, they will cost more, but it will be less of a pain in the long run. Some aftermarket,Chinese counterfeits, MAY be dangerious as well. Fire hazzard.

MY PORTS for usb will not recognise any cables or external hardrives etc

Have you done a OS upgrade? Have you removed all USB, cables, etc, shut down, unplug from AC ,remove battery, leave battery out, plug in boot normally. If that fails go to Manufacturer's website Support, Look for a Solve a problem, or Manufacturer's drivre updates. Is your computer up to date on ALL windows and manufacturer's updates?
