Check the remote control for its infra-red emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check by pressing all the buttons on it; and see whether all of it generates infrared signal while pressing. If it is found OK, check and replace the infrared sensor inside the TV. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It has details about how to check a remote control; by one among the post. Pull up older posts. If the remote control is found OK; check and replace the infra-red sensor inside the TV. Sanyo TV Code for Dish remote 21.0 IR/UHF PRO only operates TV Power and Volume Functions.

Hello Witt Thomas,

I can understand the concern and wanting the remote to work the TV Menus. It is possible with our remotes, however it depends on the TV itself. I've seen instances where there are 2 TV's in one house, and 1 will do it, while the other won't.

If you have tried all of the remote codes, and none work, the only other options we have available are to try a powr scan, or teach the remote. This link http://www.mydish.com/support/teach-learning-remote-20-21 can provide the steps on how to teach that model of remote control!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Codes won't work on my phillips magnavox tv

First what is the age of the remote relative to the TV? The codes are limited to those for devices released about 6 months before the remote was programmed. If this is the problem, then you may need a newer universal remote.

Next is the TV responding to any remote or button press? It's possible that the IR receiver has failed or the entire board has failed in the TV. (If the buttons work, it's just the IR receiver if the unit doesn't respond to any button presses.) For parts, try shopjimmy.com or partstore.com. You want parts that match the ones in the TV.

You can check if the remote works with a cell phone camera. Take a picture of the IR beam end of the remote when someone else presses the button. When you look at the resulting picture there will be light at the end of the remote.

I hope this helps.

One ir sensor must be covered up in order to control receiver

rogere214

There could be an IR interference from another source, perhaps florescent lights, DVD player, TV, etc. To locate the source, leave everything off except the receiver and TV. Turn one component on at a time and try the remote to see if the remote still works or not. If it still works, turn on next component. Try the remote until it stops working. Once you find the source, try moving it to a new location. If you don't find the source, then we may need to replace the receiver. I hope this helps.

I bought a replacement remote control for my tv and doesnt work, how do i get it work? I put fresh batteries, reset the remote, and pressed the tv/dvd button. model MD14FP1

Have you make sure you were sent the correct one, according to the info for the model you give the replacement remote should be a 72796929 and it's available through the partstore.com for about 10 dollars. If you got a universal or programable remote then you'll have to try the code search procedure listed in the instruction manual. If you have the correct remote(part number) then there is a problem in the IR receiver panel or the IR receiver itself. If you have a universal remote you might want to try the dvd codes also because you have the combo/TV

Remote Stopped Working

It is possible the IR sensor is bad. Most of the time if it is a remote issue, the light on the remote will not light up. Does the remote that came with tv still control any functions? I would try the remote that came with the tv, and then go from there, but it sounds like your IR sensor has gone out on you.

Dish IR Remote 20.0 has problems after sunset.

The problem for me was the TV giving off IR signals that interfered with DISH's poorly designed remote. When the TV's room ambient light sensor was turned on and it became dusk outside the DISH remote would stop working. Moving the receiver away from the TV helps but the problem is not eliminated until the light sensor is turned off.
Until DISH corrects this poor design there may be no other viable solution.

Remote stopped working

You can look at the IR beam coming from a remote control using electronic cameras, like camcorders or webcams, if you want to see whether the remote is actually working. It doesn't sound like the remote is your problem. But it is probably your TV. IR receivers don't go out too often, but it can happen. You can try holding the remote directly in front of the receiver.
