Question about Toshiba Satellite A100-S8111TD Notebook

My HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device got missing

I cannot play any CD or DVD anymore. The icon of the DVD R does not appear any more.

Check to see if the laptop can find the disk drive by going in my computer. if it cannot find it then either turn off and then back on or restart your laptop and then go back onto my computer and see if it can now find the disk drive then if it cannot then i don't know.

I got the fix from Microsoft and run the exe to fix the "upper" something and after that it can see the CD/DVD drive. I think it is a Windows bug. Not a hardware failure. (Cost me a trip to local store)

Try running System Restore to a day just before this failed. It's a software issue according to other forum posts elsewhere.

Hi,

1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • SYSTEM
  • CurrentControlSet
  • Control
  • Class
  • {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

  • UpperFilters
  • LowerFilters
  • UpperFilters.bak
  • LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the registor editor


7) Go Device manager right click on Computer (Vista) -go to properties left hadside Device manager

click the + on the CD DVD drive you will find the you find the exclamation mark right uninstall that driver and Reboot your system and the issue was resolve .

I read over the solution to the problem by deleting the lower keys in the registry,,restarted and it works fine again,,thank you.
The 1st time I tried it, there was now upper or lower keys because i had uninstalled the driver 1st.
