Clearing printer Turn off your computer and completely shut down. Turn off your printer. Disconnect all cables and electrical cords from your printer. Make sure the electrical cord is also removed from the wall. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the power cord to the printer. Then connect the printer cable from the computer to the printer. Turn on your printer Now reboot your computer (cold boot) Your printer should now clear itself.
All catridges are made to show the ink levels only for 1st use, once you refill the cartridge you need to reset the ink level chip, some cartrides level cannot be reset, some can be re-set.
There are solution available for some specific printer ink cartridges on how to re-set the ink level.

did you mean that even the cartridge place was new, no ink came out of its printhead? maybe the ink cartridge is defective. if it says that your CL-41 has run out, press reset/paperfeed button for 5-10 seconds to reset the cartridge. hope to be of help.
The Canon cartridges has a memory chip and the printer takes the information from ink level from this chip.You can't reset the ink level on all Canon Pixma printers.You need to turn off the function on printer to show the ink level.On most printers this happen with push resume button and hold it for 5 seconds. The printer shows empty cartridges but it will printing.
This is the REAL working method of manually resetting Canon ip1880 - ip 1980.
1. Unplug the POWER cord. 2. Press & hold the power button. 3. Connect the power cord WHILE holding the power button. 4. Keep on holding the power button for about 30 seconds. 5. Release the power button. The printer should be turned off. 6. Turn the printer on and that's it!
NOTE: You have to do this every time you turn on your printer. Or you will get the waste pad full error.
