David, The same problem occured, when I talked to samsung they put me thru all the stupid owner tricks, then abruptly told me they couldn't help at this time, gave me a number and I never heard from them again. Other than not working after 15 to 20 minutes it's a great unit. Thanks samsung for all your customer assistance.

My unit also turns off for no reason after a few minuets. Unit is 2 months old.

I wish I did not buy the 46" LCD TV simply because it's Samsung.

They gave me a number and told me they would get in touch with me in 24.48 hours. It's been 2 weeks. Still nothing. I wanted to see how long it would take.

Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.

You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.

Fan chk problem too

it means the home theater is over heating and the unit will shut down to prevent any damage. This can happen if the unit is stacked along with other electronic devices or the unit is in an enclosed area that prevents the unit from cooling properly. To decrease the chance of overheating, relocate your home theater to a more open area.

If the home theater display reads PROTECTION every time you turn it on, no matter where or how the unit is placed, it needs service. To set up service call Samsung Customer Care at 1-800-SAMSUNG (1-800-726-7864). Have your model number and serial number on hand to set up service.

The system goes into Sleep mode every 5 minutes and just before going into the sleep mode,''protection Error'' flases on the screen

Unfortunately, the unit is not going into "Sleep mode".
The PROTECTION error actually means that the unit is overheating.
The unit shuts itself off to avoid further damage.
Try to make sure that no other device is below the unit. Also make sure the unit has adequate ventilation on the back of it.
If not, call 1-800-7267864 and let them set up a repair order for the unit.

Toshiba sd-kt50 dvd player turn on open/close hello appears protection appears and goodbye comes up turns it self off. we had two second power offs not associated with a storm

the sudden power cut-off can either blow the fuse or corrupt the system of DVDs.but, some DVDs has protection for this occurrence.try not to use it for sometime.then if it's well rested try turning it on see if is resets it's protection circuit.if not, a new unit or call a technician for it.

ther is dc voltage applying your speakers by amplifire itself and turn on speaker protection circuit itself.
it can be happens because
1.loose connection in amplifire board
2.faulty output section of amplifire
3.short circuit of speakers
4.error detecting circuit faulty.
if youcan open the cover and clean the circuit for dust and resolder the circuit with 30 W soldering iron cairfully.if you want the more asistence please come again

You have a short in the internal power of this unit. It is going into protect and shutting itself off to keep it from damaging anymore of the internal electronics. Very likely a voltage regulator has gone bad or a power capacitor has gone bad. You will not be able to repair this yourself unless you are skilled in electronic repair. I would suggest contacting the manu and seeing if they have a authorized repair shop in your area. If not ask around and see who is a reputable repair shop in your area.

Protection

Protection means the unit is detecting a short somewhere. Disconnect speakers and components and attempt to power on the unit again. If it will power on with nothing connected, repeat the process (turn off, connect something, then power on) until you find the bad component or speaker.

Email answer I got from Sharp:

I do apologize for the problems you are having with your audio unit. The protect mode
indicator will appear when the unit detects abnormal resistance in your speaker setup. I
recommend removing any additional speaker wire that may be added to the unit to extend the
factory speaker lengths. Also, make sure you have all the factory speakers attached, and all
non-factory speakers removed. Finally, please unplug you unit from he wall for 1 hour after
checking all of the above suggestions to completely reset your unit.
If you are still having issues after doing all of the steps mentioned above, the unit may need
to be evaluated by a Sharp Authorized repair center.
