Open power unit on Bissell 1672

I live nowhere near technical support for Biseel. Is there anywhere on the web where I can find instructions on opening up the power unit so I can clean out dog hair?

Thanks

I have the Bissell Big Green model 1672 and have used it for many years. Recently, the fan or suction blower began to emit a burnt smell so I shut it off. I had difficulty figuring out how to dissemble the top motor unit. Here is what I found.

Don't pry up on the very top disk, which is an air outlet. It will only break off and won't allow access to anything. If you do break it off, drill holes through the four posts and use stainless steel screws to re-attach the disk to the plastic posts it sits on.

Now, beneath the air outlet is the rest of the motor unit. The motor unit consists of three pieces. The bottom piece is the lid to the waste water receptacle. It is concave pointing down (lid shaped). The top piece is the domed lid for the motor unit. The middle piece is a flat plate between the other two pieces. The top of the flat plate (inside the unit) has mountings for the suction fan and the pump.

The flat plate is bolted to the bottom piece and the top piece (domed lid) is simply snapped down to the flat plate. If you take a flashlight and look inside the area where the AC cord is stored, you can see that the domed lid is a distinct piece from the flat plate. The model 1672 and 1680 (or 1680-3 if you wish) are nearly identilcal.

To access the internal parts in the motor unit, you cannot pry between bottom piece and the the flat plate because they are bolted together. But you can remove the top domed lid. To remove the domed lid, position the motor unit in front of you with the switches at 9 o-clock. Three snap-downs which attach the domed lid to the flat plate are at 1 o'clock, 2:30, and 7 o'clock. Wedge a flat bladed screwdriver or pocketknife between the edge of the domed lid and the flat plate at those locations and the lever the domed lid out and then up. The domed lid will separate from the bolted-together flat plate and bottom piece.

Wiring from the switches remain attached to to the electrical components. You will see that the AC cord has white, black, and green wires. The green ground wire connects to the fan ground at the 9 o'clock position. The white power connects to upper connector on the pump and also to the fan at the 7:30 position. Black feeds both switches on model 1672 and then a black wire runs from the correct switch to the bottom connector on the pump or to the connector on the fan at the 1:30 position.

Model 1680 has a third switch which feeds power to the floor sweeper. It has its own connection to the green ground and white power and goes through the third switch to connect to black.

If you need to replace the pump or the fan, shop around carefully. The pump, for example, can be found for $30 plus shippingOpen power unit on Bissell 1672 - 2_bing.gif, but some will want to charge you $80.

No steam or water even coming out, its just quiet except brushes moving

David, the brushes on the motor may be burned out and the conduction process has been compromised. In short the motor is bound up and won't turn. This can happen if surface debris collect on parts of the motor. Do not turn it on for long and let the unit get warm as it will eventually break down permanently.
If you need a manual, go the company web site and seek that from customer services.

Bissell model 1694 rug scrubber works for a while then makes a loud noise when you pull it toward you like it is. Umping over something, roller is very easy to pull on, is it loose or a belt?

Dear Sir:
Possible the motor can be faulty, or test the belt if is crack and replace. However you must see if there are some debris inside. Please see the section troubleshooting in your user manual. Download Biseel.com or www.fitness.manualsonline.com or www. retrevo.com or www.manualsfactory.com

The suction on my DC08 feels like it is down to 10% to what it was when I had it new. I had a similar problem about 2 yrs back and even changed the head unit. It worked fine for a few months but has...

Some of the dyson units strip down further using torx bits, sometimes the internal holes of the plastic components get clogged with fine dust that hardens, causing loss of suction. Although the filters are cleaned regularly the airflow is reducedthus giving poor cleaning power.

How does it work?

Most units of this type make steam by heating water that is placed in a canister. Other than the place you attach the "hose", there should be only one other place on the body of the unit that opens up... that's most probably where the water goes in. Put water into a measuring cup, graduated cylinder, filling to known point. Then pour water into unit until 1/2" below fill hole. Note on measuring cup how much you used. This is the unit's capacity. Put "lid" or "cap" back on, plug unit into wall and wait a little while. Voila! Steam.

Trying to fix new belt to Hoover Turbo Power vacuum cleaner. Don't see how the belt becomes taut. Fitting it around the roller, there is nowhere to fit the belt to, it just sits loose.

I looked at the user instructions guide online and saw where the 'other end' of the belt should be fitted. It was extremely hard to fit but eventually managed it. Thanks for this solution site. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

I have a Kenmore carpet cleaner 175-8690490. Can't find the instructions anywhere. Where can I find a user manual on line NOW? Thanks!

For Sears, go to Sears.com, click on the parts link, a parts list will come up and near the end of the list should be a owner manual that you can get thru them, that is if it available.

DIRT DEVIL MODEL 08245
BRUSE HAS NO TORQUE, HOW DO I OPEN UNIT TO GET TO TURBO UNIT

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Most of the turbo units are a snap together or they have hidden screws to un-screw to open the top and the bottom of the turbo unit, please check with you owner’s manual under trouble shooting and they will instruct you on how to dis-assemble the unit, and also please check with your local vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
